One of the simplest, and often overlooked, setups is a modded XBOX with xboxmediacenter installed on it.
The xbox has a coaxial out, can be operated via remote, and is fully networkable.
I have a NAS with 4TB of movies and music setup that is being sent to my amp and television by the XBOX.
