I can use either - I've tried with both (well, I haven't tried ONLY using the realtek). But I figured the Extigy was higher quality (certainly more expensive)
I can't get anything to work right. I've also tried this thing:

But couldn't get it to work either (kept saying it couldn't get the input/output channels)
