Alright, I figure I should "introduce" myself, or give a bit of a background. I'm Geoff St. Germaine and I'm moderating in the DIY Subwoofer and DIY Speakers sections.
I was born in Newfoundland, which is in the Martimes on the east coast of Canada for that who don't know. My father and mother are/were Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers so we did a fair bit of moving around. I mostly grew up in Alberta, which is in western Canada on the praries.
After finishing high school I joined the Canadian Forces to become an Air Navigator (or Air Combat Specialist Officer as the name will soon be changed to). I went to Royal Military College for 4 years where I did a B. Sc. in Physics. From there I was sent directly to grad school and completed an M. Sc. in Physics in 2006. Since then I've been in flying school working toward getting my navigator wings, which I'll hopefully have in about 2 months.
I've been interested in audio and home theater probably since I started playing bass in junior high school which is what got me interested in audio. I began building speakers in high school, mostly bass guitar speakers at that time. Since then I've built 3 home theater subwoofers, one pair of floorstanding 3-ways, a set of 5 full range surround speakers for a friend (based on the Fostex FE167E) and I'm currently finishing up the center channel of what is to be a 7 speaker surround package. I quite enjoy DIY in many areas and I also build guitars, basses and other stringer instruments and furniture in addition to speakers and subwoofers.
Here are my two latest instruments... the second one I built for my wife as a gift:
I've been married to my wife Sarah for about a year and a half now. We're both in the military but she's getting out and is probably going to go back to school and do an Master's of Social Work.
