I am going to use software convolver with the filter IR (PC as source). I wonder if that is appropriate. And yes, I am using no subwoofer. So these are measurements of my main. | I don’t have any qualms about equalizing the mains, but then I know what I’m doing. If you don’t, proceed with caution.
That said, I’m not sure how “appropriate” or a PC-based EQ is useful in a home theater. I gather you’d be using the PC’s DVD drive and a 5-1 soundcard fed directly to amplifiers or powered speakers? Quote: |
I guess my question is really about what does the big dips tell about my room accoustic or speaker placement, whether it can be remedied with EQing or not.
| Moving speakers can definitely make a difference in the range your graphs show, so by all means try that first, if it’s an option. In the range your graph shows (below 400 Hz) the room is a big influence, just as it is in the subwoofer range, so EQ can make a difference, just as it does with a sub – if you can recognize what’s “addressable” and what’s best left alone. Typically with the mains you only want to address broader “trends,” with broad fitlering, rather than narrow problems that require narrow filtering. Like your 100 Hz dip vs. the one between 200-300 Hz, for instance.
