In tarot "The Hermit" is a solitary, spiritual, and learned person who sometimes sheds an honest light on the universe, so that others may see what lies in darkness. I love "learning" and have spent most of my 52 years chasing new experiences, knowledge, and skills. I've put so much of myself into the search, I have lost much of my connection to society, and people. It is a rare thing for me to "join", except when I can share something particularly interesting and challenging... like Home Theater.
I'm in the last stage of building my first HT... and it will probably be my "only" HT... since I have many other experiences I hope to explore. Not that I won't tweak and improve what I'm building... that's much of the fun and challenge... I just don't have the resources to build over again. Retirement is not that many years away. Having a decent system to experience, when I'm not working any more, is "one of my priorities... and some of the best money I spend.
I have experienced live performances that give me chills... and my goal is to be able to reasonably reproduce such an experience. I want to tingle with sensory pleasure and smile uncontrollably at the feeling. I understand much of that is the quality of the recording... but I at least need enough hardware to have the chance.
I recently replaced the last "old" piece of my first 5.1 system when I ordered new Rocket 1000's, with the Extended range tweeters and digital equalization. I am feeding the Rockets, Axiom surrounds and center, and SVS PC-ultra sub with a Pioneer Elite VSX-54tx. I use a Sony sacd to provide a decent source. Im just finishing several dozen freestanding acoustic panels/diffusers AND clouds so that I can tune my small room as best I can (15x11x7.5" = 1150 cu ft). I will replace the Pioneer and Sony, some day, because of technological developement... however the speakers, panels, and room will likely stay the same. Nothing really "elite", but thinking it will do a good job for me, with some help from the more musically and acoustically talented peeps... such as yourselves.
I just bought the Behringer 8000 mic and accessories, and the software to do some real analysis. Will be playing with my current set-up to get ready for the new Rockets, arriving later this month. In my search for info on real-time audio analysis I came across HTS, and here I am...
Nice to meet you all... Have good Holidays filled with luck and satisfaction... Don
