Often adding the mains gets some irregularity, but only an octave or so above and below the crossover frequency. It shouldn’t introduce wholesale problems. Maybe you should post a graph, so we can see what's going on.

another thing I can't get more than 8 peq filters set nothing I try gets any more than 8. according to the manual I should be able to get all 20.

Not sure what you mean. If you’re using MIDI, you’ll only get the filters REW recommends. You certainly don’t need 20 filters. I can’t see why you would need even the eight; you have a fairly nice and easy-to equalize response there. Looks to me like 4 or 5 filters would be all you need.
