| Re: Just Joined - So Hello to All To the discussion about getting HT sound right, I've read that it is actually much easier in a home setting compared to a theater due to the smaller space. This especially applies to the low end, where one or two subwoofers can fill most home theaters whereas the cineplex usually has a very large room which is much more difficult to fill. Taken to the extreme, I've also heard that inside a car is the easiest place to control every aspect of the sound, and I've been in some cars that would seem to bear that out. (Not mine though, I prefer to be able to hear the sirens of emergency vehicles while I'm driving).
In any event, I do have a decent sub in my home theater setup and it has made a big difference. I think the most important thing is that the sub be set up properly. Too many folks over-emphasize the low bass because they want to know it's there at all times, but a properly set up subwoofer will just sit there quietly until it is called upon to do something. At that point it should be more of sensation rather than a loud booming noise. Anyway, I realize your comments regarding subs were intended to stimulate debate, and it appears to be doing so. |
