Jeffr Intro

I'm not positive that I'm where I ought, but hey!
I'm Jeff - In Fort Lauderdale, FL. This being the 11th state wifey and I have resided in. Professionally, I do financial analysis in a bank, but techie kind of stuff has always been a center of hobby life. (I had my ham radio license in 1956 - a hobby which followed me for many years).. Another significant hobby is woodworking, and I have a well equipped shop.

But, anyway - I come to this place because I'm on the 'newbie' end of home theater.. Just couldn't stand walking past those beautiful HD pictures at Best Buy - and I broke down and did it. I suspect I'm not alone. Anyway, now I have the 47" Samsung LCD.. Also had a Sony "digital audio control center" (basically a receiver with appropriate inputs and outputs to dink around with home theater) and a fairly decent set of Audiofile towers all of which work very nicely together. I built a pair of rear surround speakers from a pair of nice midrange speakers I had around, which also work nicely.. But now the biggie: gotta have a Subwoofer.. I have a pair of 10" Infinity woofers out of an old speaker set which I had bought new MANY years ago. My original thought was to put together the Decware 10" Deathbox and use one of the speakers, which seemed simple and clean - But then the thought - "Couldn't I use both in some form of box??" - At which point I know that I'm over my head - and I also know that now Home Theater is about to become my new MAIN HOBBY. Home theater is probably more rewarding than being a serial killer!! So - where should I start to create a box for a pair of 10" woofers?? How can I design a crossover for that??: Also, It seems that many folk are able to take measurements on speaker performance which I wasn't aware were available to measure as amateurs.. Where is the equipment and expertise coming from to do this??
Any advice would be gratefully accepted.
Thanks
Jeff
