Trouble getting best performance from DVC subwoofers

I need a little advice on how to handle DVC woofers. For instance, when I use the posted parameters for the Tempest-X and tell BassBox Pro I want to feed the voice coils individually, I get a recommendation for an 18 cu. ft. box and a beautiful curve like the top one in my attachment.

However, if I tell it I want to run the voice coils in parallel and ask it to suggest a box size, it cuts the box volume, Qes, Re, Le and Qts values all in half and generates a much less inspired curve like the bottom one. The curve for a series hookup is much the same.

Am I doing something wrong? Is this just the nature of some dual voice coil woofers? Or is BassBox Pro totally messed up? Thanks for any feedback you can give me.
