Hey, Im Robert Dockery and I love HT!

I am a College student, attending CCNY of New York. Transfered from City Tech a year ago. I major in computer engineering. Over the years i've been into "peicing together" things of my own. It all started out with building computers at the age of 8. The first computer I ever built was based on a cyrix core, and pretty much sucked. Over the years and many blown up power supplies later, I got into HT. I've always loved bass. once upon a time thought I had the best bass ever with some speakers called Logitech z560's. When my friend decided to come over and play with the wiring one day he ended up shorting out my amp my lovely bass took a dirt nap. Logitech sent me a pair of crappier speakers as replacements and from that point on I decided I had to get some "real" speakers. So I found a pair of infinity primus 150's on sale at electronicsexpo.com for 80 a pair, snagged them fast. The good reviews had me excited, and i didnt know what to expect. Played with them for a few weeks and realized I needed a sub, badly. Did some research online and settled on the velodyne dps-10 for 199.99 @ J and R music world. Ran down and bought one before auditioning. It ended up being a pretty good purchase for $216 out the door and if i could go back id actually purchase it again. Unfortunately I ran the sub through a 2 channel receiver at the time, no LFE out. Had to use high level inputs but ended realizing the Velo didnt have the 80hz highpass filter like advertised. The infinity speakers were literally struggling at semi-loud volumes because they weren't crossed over at all. At this point i made another trip to J and R to buy an AVR. They had the Onkyo Tx Sr 602 for $249.99, so i snagged one and was happy with the power when paired with the primus 150's. Over time i did realize that there was absolutely no midrange with this setup. I then took ANOTHER trip to J and R and auditioned the Polk Rti-4's, Rti-6's, Nht SB-2's, Nht SB-3's, Klipsch Rb somethings,Yamaha booshelfs, and Polk Monitor 40's all powered from the same Denon AVR in 2-channel mode. After this audition I was sold on the NHTs. I couldn't afford the SB-3's unfortately, but I did have enough for my second place choice, Sb-2's. The NHT's, even though noticably lower in volume compared to the other speakers at the same volume level (especially compared to the klipsch's) put out a less fatiguing sound with more clarity than any of the other speakers I listened to. Bought 1 pair home A/Bed them next to the infinity primus 150's and voila whattayaknow I had a midrange now and a much more cohesive blend with the sub. Bought a second pair a month or two later and enjoyed HT bliss...until the upgrade bug bit. Bought a Rythmik DirectServo kit after reading about it online and other people's enthusiastic testimonials. The velo only provided output to about 25hz, and from reading forums online you really start to feel like you're missing A LOT in todays DVDs...Got the Rythmik servo and BAM! Strong (clean) output to about 16hz, and tons of output down to 10hz and probably lower. All this with help from room gain but still, jaw dropping output compared to the velo dps-10. Now I am at the point where I want to upgrade my receiver, the onkyo just doesn't cut it with the NHT's like it did with the Infinity's...Thats about it!
