Here is a sketch of what I think ...
the sofa won't be in the middle of the way, you will have a better angle to watch TV (I think) and you have space in the back for stands or if you decide to hang them you can do it anywhere in the ceiling; just use a short wire or maybe you can find or make a bracket
To answer your question ... yes, the receiver will be able to calculate the distance of the speakers; but is a good idea to manually check the set up after running the autocalibration
I forgot ... Do you use the table in the front of the couch??? ... if you don't need it, you can place it behind the seat ans use it as the stand; with the surround speakers you don't need them at ear level the idea is to fill the room with the effects ... try and see if you like the results ...
