Adopt a wounded Vet idea...........

I am curious if others would want to try something like this, the idea being that the Higher up's here could organize a spare equipment drive from fortunate members to assemble a system to entertain a wounded Veteran returning from Iraq or Afghanistan to brighten up an otherwise very tough period in a Soldiers life.
Set up a place where gear could be donated to a trustworthy Moderaotr for example, pick a local Vet of anyones choosing to donate items and do a set up of all the gear, I am sure something could be put together to cheer a worthy hero up! Being Disabled I dont have much ability to take the lead on this but would help however possible, I am just curious to pass along an idea and see if it snowballs.............anyone interested?..............members could really make a difference in someones recovery! We could perhaps post pictures (with permission) of the recipient and our efforts for the entire site to see......maybe more, what do you guys think? Thanks for atleast reading my idea! Chad

Items could include but not limited to:
Recievers
DVD players
Game system
Speakers
Ipod and thumb drives
Monitor
Remote control's
Cables/Wires
Power Strips
Media Rack
DVD/CD's and game Media and so on.

It might could work... definitely a worthy cause and good idea.

I do not have any gear that I am ready to part with at this moment, but I do have bunches of spare cables.

How do you determine who to give it to?

Re: Adopt a wounded Vet idea...........

Well as I said I would not want to be the person to pick if possible because of disability myself and if no other members are near me it would be hard for me to collect gear at my house and get it to the chosen's home and do set-up....but its not impossible.
I would like to think nobody would to advantage of this kindness but in this day and age I would be most comfortable with proof of who exactly this is going to help and nobody attempts personal gain. A list could get prepared to avoid doubles of gear unless multiple Vets could be helped. I just wanted to explore any potential momentum this idea could gain and its plan could evolve in time. There are many ways people help eachother all the time, I gave away Washer and Dryer to a new family a couple weeks ago via Craigslist and we sent both of our recently replaced phones to a project to help those serving call home and 4 older phones we donated to a rape shelter, 2 years ago we dontated a older but usable car to a camp for Retarted children to be sold at auction I suppose.
At anyrate this could be a really great way of showing thanks to a Vet who has paid dearly for the way of life we all enjoy and help him in a dificult transition period. Cheers Chad Smith
