My Wifes cancer

Thought I'd start a new thread for this seeing as its not for me specifically.

taking over from here

Marian was admitted to hospital last night with signs her kidneys were failing due to the Chemo treatment. She has had the flu the last couple of days and that may have been the final straw for her body because the last set of tests she had indicated that everything was going well. Any prayers for her are appreciated.

thanks
DrF

Re: My Wifes cancer

Dr F,

I am really sorry to hear about your wife. I'm not one for praying so maybe the sound of a strange voice calling on the Lord for your wife's recovery along with some comfort for you, will catch his attention. I can't imagine what life would be like without my Linda and therefore I can only imagine what you must be going through.

Todd

Re: My Wifes cancer

shes doing OK for now, she had a reaction to the antibiotics she was on, so they changed them, she still can't come home for another night and I think she is missing the house and kids. other than that we are having trouble getting info out of the doctors, either there is nothing wrong other than the infection or there is something else going on they aren't telling us about just yet.

Re: My Wifes cancer

update:

She is still in hospital, the doctors can't find the infection. They think it may be in the brain so they are talking about doing a lumbre punch. She really doesn't want that. She did have a headache today but it started to subside this afternoon and she is fairly sure it was becasue there was something in her dinner she's not suposed to eat (gluten). I Pray she doesn't need a lumbre punch and they check her kidneys out before discharging her. Aparently the chemo damages kidneys.

Her neutrophils (baby white blood cells) are very low and they need to be much higher before she can start her next round of chemo tommorow.

thanks for everyones prayers.

Re: My Wifes cancer

Update:

prayers have been answered. The hospital kicked her out today without the lumbrepunch.

They gave her a whole heap of antibiotics to take so with anyluck she will be able to start her next round of chemo next week.

Thank you everyone.

Re: My Wifes cancer

Fantastic DRF, but please, whilst everyone is thanking god for everything he did and proof of his great works and all, please, how about a little bit of recognition for the all important human input by everyone concerned?? Doctors, nurses, staff at the hospital and all ancillary services.

Whilst the doctors may at times be making heaps of moolah, I can pretty well assure you that the nurses and everyone else don't, and the vast majority of them do care.

It must be a thankless task at times, with probably way too many 'losses' in the critical care field which must also be emotionally draining.

And when they finally DO get a 'win' in the critical care, all the credit seems to go elsewhere..................

Re: My Wifes cancer

Thanks Phil.

Terry, I have been pondering your post. It made me think. I agree that (specifically in Christian circles) the credit always seems directed away from the specific care givers. But I would like to take this oportunity to re-enforce that Marian and I both regularly thank and show appreciation for/to the doctors/nurses. I am also an avid science fanatic, and to that end, I constantly marvel at the wonders in science and peoples understanding/advances in medicine (it gets very complicated and mind boggling). Particulary cell mitosis and the associated chemical/genetic changes required for growth.

Within the basic structure of faith, it is through God that peoples inteligence and wisdom are gained, both professional secular and teacher/pastor. So from this understanding we automatically give credit to God for the work of people.

To summerise: Whilst we acknowledge that without doctors/researches we would not have chemo drugs, we believe that without God we would not have doctors/researches.

Please be assured that members of our church pray specifically for health care givers as a dedicated part of the Sunday morning service.

Please feel free to PM or post if What I said doesn't make sense. (I am dyslexic with mild Autistic traits, this of course makes comunication a little hard).

Re: My Wifes cancer

hi drf

You have given me your wifes name, Marion, was hoping you might have slipped your first name in so I could address you by that, much more intimate, especially given the thread we are in.

Having mentioned Marions name, I hope very much she is doing well, or at least as well as we can reasonably expect.

Thanks for your reply, although to be honest I didn't expect one, as I only wanted people, at least for a small time,to also acknowledge the efforts in often trying circumstances of the people on the cutting edge. In no way did I want to distract from the thread which is of course your wife and her sad situation.

Perhaps it is needless for me to say, but obviously I don't fully agree with your 'worldview' so to speak, but I AM very interested in your wifes medical progress and so certainly in a metaphorical sense I am 'praying for' Marion!!

I don't want to start some sort of theological thread, and even if I did this is in no way an appropriate place to do it, but thankyou for your reasoned reply.

It may be comforting that arranged behind your wife and yourself are ALL the available forces- both christian and non-christian- all hoping for her well-being and recovery!!

Both of you take care, and keep us up-to-date.

Re: My Wifes cancer

You have not distracted from this thread, I earnestly like it when people point out such opinions as I find it helps to take a more reasoned approach to what is divine, what is human and what is niether. Which ever side of the faith divide we sit I still respect your opinions and that is the main reason I replied (A kind of explanation for my attitude). I appreciate greatly your concerns and metaphorical prayers and will keep everyone updated as it happens. BTW my name is Matt.

An update, Marian had an apointment with her specialist on Tursday resulting from her infection and subsequent stay in hospital. As part of that appointment her specialist reviewed her latest CT scans and found very little evidence of the cancer that was throughout most of her body. Now he has booked her in 6 weeks early for her PET scan. basically this could shorten her need for chemo treatement from 12 rounds to only 6. Sofar this is really good news as it shows she is healing at twice the expected rate.
Thank you to everyone who has been praying and thinking of us over the last couple of months.

Re: My Wifes cancer

Dr F, I am glad to hear that not only has your wife recovered enough to return home but may also be healing at twice the rate expected.

I have no doubt that you were very appreciative of the skill/knowledge, care, and concern demonstrated by the medical staff attending your wife.

I would not consider myself a Christian but I hope that prayers from me on such an occasion as this will be heard. If in fact it is an inappropriate thing for a non-Christian to do then I would hope the more learned Christians among us would let me know.
