Sonnie:
Montana really is the last best place.
I've been going since I was 4ish every year. Nothing makes me a human being quicker than being there.

And vacations should be AT least 2 weeks. I NEED the long vacation -- the long weekends can't do it for me.

I'll be looking forward to your opinions on the Dropkick Murphy's and the Screaming Trees. I'm pretty sure if you liked the other Flogging Molly, you'll like this one as well. Now that I'm back, I'm going to have to go pick up that Pogues CD I meant to get earlier.

I guess I'll only get to imagine how nice it is being I'll probably never get to visit that area. Unless of course we get to travel by car or motor home when we retire. My wife won't get on a plane for nothing.

That's a bummer. So many possibilities lost. Of course, the best one being Montana

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Hello all!

Sonnie: I do like Johnny Cash, especially the later stuff that he did with Rick Rubin (American Recordings), there is something in his voice and the songs that he covered are really good and varied, Bob Marley, Nick Cave, Cat Stevens, The Beatles, Neil Young, U2, Sting, Leonard Cohen, the list is endless. There are some really great songs sung with a lot of passion, it literally sends shivers up my spine listening to some of the stuff. Country music is not really my thing but Johnny Cash is so much more than country. Walk the Line was probably one of the first movies that I went to see in a theatre in 3-4 years and I loved it, great acting and a nice story with some great songs thrown in. Have it on DVD and have watched it twice and will definitely watch it again.

JCD: Still have not really listened to the cds properly but have played them through once. Musically I like the Dropkick Murphys, I do have a soft spot for some punk music, lyrically it is a bit disappointing, Flogging Molly definitely win as far as lyrics go though neither come close to the Pogues IMO. I was surprised to hear Shane Macgowan singing on the Murphys cd, he is the former singer of the Pogues and the Popes. I have not really made my mind up about Screaming Trees, I purchased Mark Lanegans solo album 'Bubblegum' a while back and really like it, I then bought 'Whiskey for the Holy Ghost' which is good but not quite 'Bubblegum', as to Screaming Trees I will need to listen some more.

Do you feel any older?

Seems like when I hit 40 I took a dive and every year since has progressively gotten worse. Mentally and physically. Maybe it's just laziness setting in.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Every once in a while I have too say "I'm 39" now. Dang, that's a big number. I sometimes feel that way for example, after I play softball on our office team).

Of course, I act 12.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Jacen, did you get a birthday email from the Shack?

I didn't notice it in Today's Birthdays the other day... if we even have that, I think we do. Then again, if you have it to not display your birthday, it might not include it there.

Looks like it may have been the file extension. It was riggsgold.gif.jpg ... I changed it to riggsgold.jpg and it worked okay.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

So I read the forum rules , but I just wanted to make sure - some forums don't like you mentioning other forums or talking about products not sponsored by on their site. Are there any rules here, or is all O.K. as long as it's HT related?

(don't wanna stick my foot in my mouth right out fo the gate )

By the way, you've got a great selection of smilies.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Good morning Glen...

We don't mind members linking to other forums here... we know we are not the only home theater forum on the net. We won't allow someone to post links merely to advertise another HT forum, but a general link for a bonafide reason is fine.

We don't and our sponsors don't (at least they haven't thus far) have a problem talking about other products than what they offer. Again, similar to above, we wouldn't want other manufacturers to advertise nor would we want a member to walk into an SVS thread and start yelling HSU is the best, don't buy SVS, etc. You know... the obvious things.

We have a pretty big SVS following here and I suspect we always will have, but SVS knows they are not the only sub out there... although they are no doubt one of the best. We've already seen Tom help another member out with a DIY sub.

We will be opening up a forum for the IB fans here pretty soon. We have an IB driver company, SoundSplinter, who will have a Manufacturers Area forum (or we may have them in the Subwoofers forum along with Pre-built and IB DIY). Yet, in the IB DIY forum we expect to see discussion of several IB drivers, just as we do now in Subwoofers.

We know where you are coming from on the sponsor thingy, but we won't have sponsors who are gonna be insisting "we don't want any discussion or reviews about products other than ours". We don't need those kind of sponsors.

There is a difference between discussion of products and advertising products and we will always monitor this, but as you suggest, if it's HT related, it is welcome.

We love our smilies...

All sounds perfectly logical to me

You had a bunch of upgrades to your system earlier this year. How are they all working out for you?

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Pretty good so far... I just got an Audio Control Maestro M2 pre-pro this past week. It replaced the Denon 3806 (which is now for sale). I've not had much time with it, but I think I'm gonna really like it.

The Toshiba HD player is less than two months old... I love it. It makes SD-DVD's look better than they did on my Denon 3910. Thanks to JimP for helping me dial in the pic on my Z4. Of course HD-DVD is excellent.

I'm somewhat speakerless, if you consider I like towers. The SVS SBS-01's are doing a remarkable 5.0 job for me as a temporary substitute. I've actually been quite surprised that such a small speaker can make such a big sound. I thought they were lacking a tad in the great room (huge room), but when I moved them to the home theater which is only 1800 cubic feet, they started showing their stuff.

All in all, I'm very satisfied with everything for now. I've got an IB project that I'm gonna be starting here pretty soon, just because I can. Seems like it will be a fun project to piddle with.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Sounds great.

I haven't jumped into either HD format yet. I'm playing a little wait and see.

I spent the last 7 months renovating my AV room. It took alot longer than planned due to time restrictions. It's almost done now. I'll try and post some pictures when I can (or you can see a thread I did over at Andews NL site).

I'm going to be upgrading to some Usher's in the next couple weeks, so I'm very excited about that.
