Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

I FINALLY received my Pogues CD!

Been listening to it for the last couple of days while I'm working. Therefore, not much in the way of critical listening, but a lot of casual listening.

The Bottom Line -- I like it. A lot. I can DEFINITELY see where Flogging Molly got their influence, or at least shared the same influences. Some notable songs that I like:
  • Dirty Old Town
  • Sally MacLennane
  • Fiesta
  • Body of An American
  • Sickbed of Cuchulaínn
  • London Girl
All of these are subject to replacement/deletion as I listen more to the album. They may stay the same, but I seem to change my mind on the songs as I listen to them more (e.g., the entire CD Walking on Coals by Bang Tango), hear more about the backround of the song (e.g., The Rooster by Alice in Chains), read the lyrics (e.g., Jeremy by Pearl Jam) or, in some case, see the video (Our House by Madness)

The CD I got (The Ultimate Collection/The Pogues) includes a live performance on a second CD. The singer REALLY sounds like he's been drinking a wee bit too much irish whiskey. Not sure if that's just his natural voice, but he's definitely sounding a little plowed..

Thanks Fincave for the recommendation.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Whew!! Glad you liked the cd, was hoping that I did not recommend something that you may not like. Shane Macgowan (the singer) has, lets say quite a reputation for drinking amongst other things which is really sad as he does have a great talent that is being wasted. A friend of mine actually went to see the band in the 90's in Holland and when they arrived at the door they were told that due to Shane being 'ill' he would not be singing but that they had another singer lined up. They were given a choice of getting the money back for the tickets or taking a chance, my friend took the risk not knowing who would be singing, it turned out to be Joe Strummer, formerly of The Clash!!! My friend was not too upset that Shane was ill!!

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Nobody seems to be chatting here anymore!!!!! I can half understand JCD not chatting as he is probably listening to the Pogues cd over and over again, but what excuse does everyone else have? My great excuse is, wait for it, WORK! Just seem to be spending way too much time there and not enough time doing fun things. Three more months to go before I finally get to take a proper holiday though with some luck should have a week off soonish.

Work has been killing me lately. I'm actually at work right now helping the procrastinator's prepare their income tax returns in time for the 10/15 deadline.

As for the Pogues.. yep, it's definitely been in high rotation. I turned someone else in the office to them as well. He didn't care for Flogging Molly all that much (too fast/hard for his tastes -- he is old though, at least 4 years older than me).

However, right this very second, the song is Ed Gein by Swamp Zombies. Violent Femmes have also been in hight rotation. Another one that I'm kind of ashamed to say I like is Robbie Williams. It's not bad, and it hurts my very being to say that.

Anyway, work break is over.. back to the grind..

I guess somebody has to do it... it has to be painful to work on Saturday. I can't handle more than about 4 days a week.

Okay... everyone can have the rest of the week off. If the boss says anything, tell him or her to register here and post in the SWAMP and I'll take care of the rest. Enjoy!

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

So we are back to the situation where nobody seems to be chatting!!

Tropical Finland seems to be getting a little bit colder now and I suppose that the long cold winter is just around the corner, will need to stock up with some good movies and music to keep myself amused, when I am not working that is!!

Well I made two posts back to back and no one else posted until now.

It's beginning to get a little colder around here, which is probably more like your summers. Low this morning 45F, hi 65F

Maybe everybody took some time off as you did give us permission!

Farenheit is just way too confusing! We have a low of 42F and a high of 53F, quite a bit warmer than the last few days. Will need to change to winter tyres on my car soon enough as it is almost impossible to drive with regular (summer) tyres once the roads get icy!

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Total guilty pleasure, and I'm appropriately ashamed, but I have a new song I like..

Scissor Sisters "I Don't Fell Like Dancing"

When I heard the first chords, I totally thought of Supertramp, but then it got kinda disco'y and, stuff..

Anyway, there you go.

And the video is.. different. I like it, but it's.. different.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

So, I'm watching late night TV, and on The Monster Channel is "The Return of the Evil Dead". Now, for those that haven't seen, the Evil Dead Trilogy is a must! Probably the most entertaining movie experience of my life was watching Evil Dead 2.

Anyway, I digress, The Return of the Evil Dead is on right now. I'm thinking it's some offshoot of the Trilogy. Boy was I wrong... pure Velvetta. From 1973, and TOTALLY looks it. This isn't even a D movie, much less a B movie. Anyway, just wish I could stay up and watch. It'd be perfect for a Halloween night movie. Oh my gawd is this good.

Just thought I'd share.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Was that the movie that started out with the underground cannibals coming up out of the sewers grabbing people?

Angie and I were watching the Monsters channel for a few minutes last night and she had to turn it because she couldn't stand it.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

I don't think so -- at least not the part I saw. The "evil dead" looked more like the ring wraiths from LOTR.. complete with swords even. This is the movie.

I've got it recorded on my DVR -- might have to watch it tonight.

Winter has arrived!!! Left work at midnight and had to spend ten minutes scraping the ice off my car's windshield and windows, not fun

Yeah.... well it was cold here today too. No ice but too cold for me to be outside.

Watched a Porcupine Tree DVD this afternoon... pretty interesting and pretty good.

Yeah, cold here too.. I think our high was only 77F.
Of course, that's why housing is so wickedly expensive.

Hey Glen... don't be such a stranger!

We never get any trick or treaters around here... too far out in the backwoods. Which means.... I GET ALL THE CANDY!

Happy Halloween!
