Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

I spent so long staring at the index page my eyes went SORE. The only thing I noticed which may not have been there before was each section of the forum can be closed so when you open the index page you only see the sub catagories you want e.g "speakers and subwoofers" and the "Home Theater Installation and Systems" forums. or was it always like this?

EDIT:
Just noticed I got the flip

here are some speakers I have been building for quite some time now:

Name: firstlayer.jpg

Size: 6.8 KB

Name: tdl10.GIF
Views: 30
Size: 6.8 KB

Name: brace.jpg
Views: 30

I might finish them this year.

I hope this is not becoming a BORE for anyone.

Looking good drf!

How did you manage to curve the bord on the rear panels?

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

It's 3mm hardwood ply, so it just bends around the braces (x3) then glued and screwed. I have done 2 layers so far. I am umming and arring about a third layer or whether to finish with a thick layer of fibreglass instead. I'll probably do some testing to find the resonance of the box first. I fear if it isn't rigid enough it will color the sound with a hollow plasticy sort of midrange. if that description makes sense. Couldn't work out how to fit CORD into my post.

Nice work on the speaker cabinets...

Is "bord" a WORD?

Thanks, it's taken almost a year to get this far on them.
I don't think bord is but I know WARD is.

I'd be WARY of adding a layer of fibergalss unless you use the right adhesive. You might check with a bowyer to find out what they use.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

I did a lot of research on Fibreglass a little while ago, I need to rebuild the transom on my boat. While the opinions on what type of fibreglass to use will greatly VARY, just about everyone agrees that polyester glass will stick to ply just a well as any other glass for this particular purpose. Although I haven't fully decided whether I want to tread that path yet, I will do some testing on the enclosures before I go much further.

Well I'm sure they will be VERY nice once you are all finished.

Anyone watched the movie Fay Grim? I watched it yesterday on HDNet Movies and it was pretty good, although strange.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

I wish I could come up with something clever to say that uses the word VERB, but my creative intellect is apparently my shortcoming.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

the word "post" is a verb, yes? so you kinda did do something (pardon the second pun) clever in that post. Otherwise all I am left with is HERB, I needed it to cook up this post

Morning all, hope everyone is well. Has anyone else noticed that Americans spell funny, the word curb being a good example, in SA we would spell it KERB.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Hmmm.... ...well... "kerb" is not in the English dictionary, but we didn't make a rule on what dictionary to use did we?

I did find the word "kern" defined as a ransitive and intransitive verb to eliminate white space between adjacent letters that may appear too widely separated on a line.

Which might possibly be the only word we could make from "kerb".

Btw... good morning by one minute here. OOPS... good afternoon... I wasn't fast enough.

Some KEEN research, Sonnie. You must be a scrabble player.

I've BEEN known to play a little scrabble in the past. That's a fun game, but Mexican Train dominoes took over our gaming.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

What the 'BEEP', a scrabble playing hillbilly, hard to believe !

Here is what Wiktionary have for the word kerb:

Noun

kerb
the edge between the pavement and the roadway, consisting of a line of kerbstones.

Alternative spellings
curb (US)

They had the following for kern which is definitely a new word for me:

kern
A light-armed foot soldier of the ancient militia of Ireland and Scotland; often used as a term of contempt.

I suppose you are never too old to learn something new.

I'll drink to that close escape from kerb .

Beer anyone?

Two whom does one complain about the lack of inebriated smilies?

Yeah... the Wiktionary would be a good additional to the Scrabble dictionary.

No peer pressure here... I won't drink beer.

One who has consumed too much beer, and is obviously in a state of good cheer, should not drive a car as they may VEER, possibly into the kerb.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

unless that is what you SEEK, mymy a lot of posts have past since yesterday.

On the topic of english, every nation has there own version of it. In Australia we write it as theatre not theater, and colour not color. so sometimes it may look like we can't speel, but we reely cann.

Morning all. Finally coming to the end of the working WEEK for me, three days off after today! I think that Australian, British and South-African englsih are similar, it is only the Americans who try to be difficult. We spell theatre etc the same way you people do. We use words like nappy (diaper), serviette (napkin), lift (elevator), tomato sauce (ketchup) etc etc. For us first floor means the first floor above ground level.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Morning Fin, I guess you guys spell the words drink, beverage, liquid, fluid like this: BEER ?
I know most of Australia does.

And if you take a PEEK into my pantry you'll find only a little beer, I am not really a drinker, just the occasional social one.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Beer is for the MEEK, in SA we would probably spell beverage 'Klippies 'n coke', Klippies being Klipdrift, a very popular brandy. In Finland beverage would probably be spelt 'vodka'. I drink to a certain extent, mostly red wine and the occasional beer after work. Finns are normally astounded when they come around to my place as I normally have quite a lot of alcohol at home and yet am sober. People here seem to buy enough for the immediate needs, I on the other hand like to have a selection as sometimes I may feel like something a bit different. I probably have some bottles of spirits that have been gathering dust for five years or so, bewildering to a lot of Finns.
