Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Greetings all! I am back from my short break in Amsterdam, had a good time and got to meet up with some old friends which is always nice. The concert was really good apart from the vocals were kind of dominated by the guitar, which seems to be the case more often than not for some reason?? Meant to watch a movie today, The Proposition, unfortunately it got cut short. My other halfs puppy was with us and she was quite fascinated with the opening credits and the big screen, however the very first scene where there is some shooting really frightened the puppy, the sound moving from speaker to speaker really did her in. It took her about 15 minutes to calm down even though it was very far from loud and lasted all of about three seconds. I will have to find a movie that the puppy can enjoy, any suggestions????

Didn't you know that we are not supposed to post about the effects of surround sound on animals. Now you have exposed the whole conspiracy to keep it covered up. The animal rights people will be all over this.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

G'day all,

I wouldn't mind seeing alot of places, unfortunately the world is too big and I don't have enough time or money to get to it all. First I'll try and get around Australia and explore the backyard, then if I have any money left over it'll be scotland, england and America. Probably even in that order.

Heres a question for the science nuts:

Assuming a microwave ovens internal dimensions were exactly square and whole mutiples of the EmWave, would the net result be a gain above the usual buildup of microwave energy or would the internal dimensions have no discernable amplitude effect?

cheers,
Dr F

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

So if it has no effect, then the wave can't cancel itself out either? So the internal dimensions of a microwave are not a technical specification for the proper function of the unit.

interesting, I would have thought it would have behaved in a similar fasion to sound pressure waves.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

I believe that they do. My understanding was that the magnetron distributes the waves in a manner that would seem to have them largely out of phase with each other. Perhaps you would get some hot spots. I am just guessing as I do not really have much experience with them. Now that I do a little quick math I realize that the wavelength is longer than I though...inches long...maybe there is some effect.

What does this have to do with the price of eggs in China?

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

What a good idea, Sonnie. We stack eggs in drf's square microwave (presumably Chinese) and see which ones cook the most to see what the power distibution looks like.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Morning all!

Was it not the chinese who came up with square watermelons as they were easier to pack? Presumably square eggs would fit in the microwave better, though I do not know how impessed the chicken would be .

drf: as to travelling, there are about a million places I would like to visit but generally do not have either the time or then the money. Living in Europe does make things a bit easier but I still do not get to travel as much as I would like to. Places I would love to visit are Poland, Bulgaria, Croatia, Vietnam, Cuba, Australia, Scotland, Ireland, New Zealand, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, USA, Canada etc.

We all know that the secret to a good egg is in the timing. So in order to get the eggs in china to be cooked just right, we need to know how much power to apply and for how long. This can only be done when we know how much power each microwave focuses on the target food.

EDIT: I was working on an algorithm for calcuating a factor to compare all microwaves but got stuck at converting modal reponse to power equivalence.

Would the square eggs have square yolks, too?

square eggs will never take off. There is too much money in the egg carton sound treatment industry.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

The European Tour:

It's Monday: Scotland is very pretty in places, impressively rugged, has whiskey and gets a lot of rain. Don't expect to understand a word they say until after your fourth whiskey.
Tuesday: Wales is similar but not nearly so rugged, has watery beer, the Welsh and has lots of sheep and rain.
Wednesday: England is gorgeous in places and absolutely bloody awful in most others. Most historical city centers have been totally gutted for the car. Every town has exactly the same shops, supermarkets and banks. Identikit England! Fortunately many villages can reek with history if you can cross the racetrack rat runs they call roads. The beer is great if you can find a real ale pub.
Friday: Denmark is almost flat. More like gently rolling sand dunes, has lots of smelly industrialised pig farms, awful beer and doesn't get nearly as much rain. They also claim the highest taxes in the world so don't stay too long!

There you are. Just think of the money and time I've just saved you on your European trip.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Thanks Chrisbee, that has saved me a lot of money. Now I don't need to worry about the entire european leg of my trip. All I need is fo Sonnie to explain what alabama is like and I won't need to visit there either. I can put the money I would have spent on travel into a better Home theatre.

How's everyone doing?

You probably don't want to miss Alabama... where all the redneck hillbillys hang out.

I'm doing wonderful... everything is made for love and if it got any better I couldn't stand it.

We are headed to Montgomery to meet some friends and eat out... probably Olive Garden, one of our favorites.

I can tell you all about Louisiana...where I lived most of my life. It is hot and humid except for the winters which are humid and hot sometimes. Instead of hillbillies we have cajuns. Very similar, they just talk different, cher.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

On our way to Montgomery tonight we noticed an old gas station/grocery mart type store that had been run down for several years, has been cleaned up and revamped. It's now called Hillbilly Mall. It has been converted to basically a flea market mall. We are truly in hillbilly country around here.

Yeah... I'd say cajuns and hillbillys have very similar lifestyles.

We ended up eating at Red Lobster and I had the Shrimp Trio.... excellent!

Gee, the questins some people ask! .I did a quick search using google for square eggs and apparently there is a device in existence that turns boiled eggs sort of squarish, it is also cheap, $2.99. Maybe Sonnie can organise a powerbuy on some of these for forum members??
