Your hunger goes away without actually eating anything, then you become bloated for no reason at all.

EDIT: heres the flip pic:

the previous owner of this Pioneer RG9 decided it would look better in flat black and promptly proceeded to destroy it with a spray can So here it is on my bench being prepared for a better finish.

A perfect diagnosis!

Explain: "Slipping transmission".

Clutch slip? Or does it fall out of gear?

It's not a term with which I am familiar.

Aaaaaaaahh!!! I'll have to find one.

slipping as in like clutch slip except that it is an automatic, mainly only does it when cold now.

Wet and dry fine emery paper on a wooden block with a suitable lubricant stroked one way from end to end without lifting off?

Paint thinners? Turpentine substitute (turps) in England might do to stop clogging of the emery paper. Or soapy water?

That would be preparing it to finish would it not? Or is the idea to get it back to bare metal and no more paint?

Too many lumps and bumps anyway to smooth it properly.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

I'll either repaint it and re-label it in a nicer color, maybe a gun metal grey? or I will continue with finer and finer wet&dry until it is almost polished, then the decision will be to leave it bare or have it anodised.

At this very moment it is sitting back in my rack because I can't stand most music without it.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Sometimes you just gotta love eBay..

I use a Marantz AV600 preamp in my garage/listening room system. The remote that goes with the unit died a very mysterious watery death (I picked it up one day and found it full of water. Nothing else around it seemed affected, but the remote had drowned).

I figured I'd either have to buy a replacement remote directly from Marantz or buy a harmony remote so I could download all the functions. The replacement remote was $90 plus shipping. The Harmony was a much better deal as I could get one of the lower level remotes for $75. However, being cheap (I am a CPA after all) and a procrastinator, I've delayed the purchase over and over..

Well, one day I do a search on eBay for my remote.. and lo and behold, I finally see a remote, by itself, up for auction. I put in the minimum bid and wait with bated breath until the auction ends. After many sleepless nights, the auction ends and I've won! Of course, I shouldn't have worried so much, but who else would really bid on the remote -- it's a terrible remote (although it does have some learning functions) for an old, obsolete piece of equipment (the preamp is from the ProLogic days).

Anyway, I'm very excited that I've managed to finally replace my old waterlogged remote with a working version.

Nice and rare find Jacen...

Wow... I have been really SWAMPED the last couple of days... which I guess is a good thing. I find it harder and harder to keep up with New Posts on a daily basis, which again is a good thing I suppose.

maybe this is why I am going deaf (possibly), maybe I should were some earplugs when surfing the net?

I guess more and more people have discovered not only the wealth of knowledge here but the ease of sharing their experience without some nuff nuff big noting themselves (like some other forums).

PFFFTT!! That's not an entertainment unit. It's a meat dryer. We all know that, who do they think they are fooling? I mean, why else would you have a fire in the bottom?

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

All of a sudden I feel warm and fuzzy inside.

One a sad note, Whilst applying the fnishing coats to my speakers (gloss black enamel)
The first coat went on o.k, the second gave a nice solid color, the third started to resemble the piano finish I was after. I then left it to tack over and when I returned It started to run on the face. The can said it would tak in ten minutes but it was still causing runs 30 min later . I am going to try and buff out the runs. But I guess I will have to put a grill cloth over the front now to hide the booboo.

How many times has this happened to others?

Too much paint too soon?

The top coat acted as a solvent for the lower layers?

Perhaps you should have pointed the most visible surface upwards?

Greater risk of dust but runs are harder to achieve.

all of the above, I should have pointed the face up. Oh well, I live and learn at least.

I might still be able to hit it with wet&dry and polish it. It wouldn't be the first time I've done that.

That's a bit extremeist isn't it? Sand it down and start again maybe, but to tear apart a years work for a couple of paint runs sounds like rebuilding the empire state because the rivets are the wrong color.

On a happier note: I did manage to do some dry runs (pardon the pun) before I sprayed with my drivers and the unit doesn't sound too bad, they just need some damping and proper stands.

It would definitely be extreme, since I was only kidding.

Dry runs... ... lol... that's a good one.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Hi all,
I just realised my last post doesn't make any sense. What I meant to say was that before I started spraying, I put the drivers in for a quick test to a) make sure they worked and b) sound O.K before I got carried away with the finnish.

Now all I need is some more time, I don't know were it goes but since the wife fell ill I have had to drop so many projects. With this being a problem I have made it a goal to finish these speakers before X-mas, finish 1 amp (probably my 2x 20Watt GC) before December and at least start planning the tweeters and subs. This is all assuming nothing goes to pot around here before then .

So whats everyone been upto? We have a 4day weekend coming up in Melbourne
