Yup... been doing loans for over 20 years now... 22-23 or so. I own my own business now, First Troy Finance. Small loan business... about a million outstanding.

No doubt I've been in search of that one speaker for a long time and just can't put my finger on it, but maybe, just maybe I've found the one. I can honestly say I've not heard a better speaker than my Martin Logan's that I have now. They are very different and absolutely are the sound I've been looking for. And by far not anywhere close to the most expensive speakers I've ever owned. The Snell B-Minor's and the VMPS RM-30's both cost more than the ML Ascent i's. Believe it or not... the speakers that I have liked the best outside of the ML's are the SVS SBS-01's. They sounded very good and had I not stumbled on to these Ascent i's, I'd most likely have them back in my HT room.

Flip pic!

And my new center is now in the house!

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

I was only teasing you Sonnie, I did remember from some profound Swamp discussion that you were in finance. Those speakers do look great, have always wanted to demo them but for now it is a bit pointless, no speaker budget at the moment and I do not think they would suit my room very well as it is rather small. Now that you have found the speakers that you like you should demo Amphion speakers, not sure if there is a retailer in Alabama but you could always do a search on Audiogon !

Yeah... I don't think we have any Amphion dealers here in Bama... not close to me anyway. They have a few listed on Audiogon though.

I hope to get the Motif hooked up today in between or amongst all the Turkey eating and visiting we have to do. It may be later tonight. Eating is taking priority at the moment...

So, whats thanksgiving all about? and why do you eat so much at that time? And while I am asking about American history, whats independance day about? who did you gain independence from?

I find it very difficult to imagine a thanksgiving day in Australia, essentially we stole Australia from the aboriginals so technically it would be a thanks-taking day.

Wikipedia can explain it in detail... but in a nutshell it is a feast to celebrate the annual harvest gathering.

Wikipedia does pretty good on Independence Day as well... for details anyway. To sum it up... it was when the U.S. first claimed independence from Britain and the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

So has anyone seen Beowulf on IMAX in 3D?

I saw it last night and i was very impressed. I don't go to movies except at IMAX (why would I need to?), and this was a very good presentation. The 3D was realistic, not stilted or gimiky and the sound was on par with the rest of the IMAX films I've seen. I don't think i'll ever really love the way cinemas sound. Horn midrange sounds way wrong to me, but I can't fault 12kw of power, it definately put forth an authoritative presentation.

As for the animation, it is definately the most realistic looking animated movie Ive ever seen, but I dont think they'll ever get lips right. Texture was amazing, though, and the depth they were able to give to skin and the detail on faces was staggering.

They need to work on the movement of horses, though. It looks plain wrong. When you ride a horse, especially at a full gallop, it's a fluid, sort of circular recipricating motion, in the film, people look vey cartoonish on horses. Maybe they tried to use the same motion as a canter, only faster, I don't know, but i laughed out loud.

Other than that it was an awesome "experience", I'd highly recomend it.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Hmmm... is it CGI? I definitely want to see this movie, it looks like it's right up my alley. I Am Legend looks promising as well.

I don't go to any public theaters at all. I've spent to much... on our home theater to not use it 100%.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

I agree totally, but IMAX is a little beyond my system's capabilities.

Yeah, its cgi, but it's not that bright, shiny kind. This is some serious stuff, theyve come a long way since Toy Story.:raped:

Yeah... I suspect visually it would be hard to compete with a good quality 3D movie done right.

300 was one of the best CGI movies I've seen thus far.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

AhAh... It was only like 70% cg. Did you happen to catch 300 on IMAX?

OHH YESSSS!!!! I had a huge grin on my face the entire time. Come to think of it, i did last night, too. My buddy had to tell me. I was just so impressed. I might have to make a pair of those goggles just for myself, though. Yhey are very uncomfortable and, though theyre designed to fit over glasses, I did'nt like the feel of them. I think if I ask nicely id be able to get some perscription sunglasses with polorized lenses at 90* to eachother and real light tint.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

hello everyone,

We have an Imax in melbourne but I have never gone. I might one day, just so I can say I have.

Was in the office today taking care of a tax issue with the paper shredder *cough* when I started to wonder, what effect it would have on speakers if you stuffed them full of shredded paper instead of polyester or fibreglass? I'm thinking it won't be as good but might help with resonance.

Morning!

Never been to an IMAX, do not think we them here in tropical Finland. Am almost planning on going to the movies, want to see the movie 'Control' about Ian Curtis, former lead singer of Joy Division.

DRF: I noticed that you are currently located beneath my keyboard, could you have a look and maybe clean underneath the keys while you are there, they seem to stick every now and again and I am getting a bit fed up having to take them off and clean them to get them to work properly.

no problem, ahh yes, I see the problem, it would appear your keybaord was made in china by a tawainese company pretending to be Japanese with an english name. I suggest buying either logitech or MS next time. .

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Hmmm... shredded paper for speaker stuffing. That might actually work.

Well.... I am officially broke! I just snagged a used Panny PT-AE2000U 1080p projector off RobZ. 40 hours on the bulb and less than a month old. It was too good of an offer to pass up.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

I don't try to convince the wife anymore. If it's a serious buy I just do it and suffer the consequences.
Usually I have suck up pretty hard for a month or two.

you could always tell her that one of those in-experienced amature criminals must have broken in and installed them while you were out at dinner.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

The 'problem' with my wife is that she's pretty interested in this stuff, so she notice stuff almost right away. Besides, a PB12plus/2 is hardly something you sneak into the house. Neither is the Euphonia center, for that matter.

I wasn't gonna sell the sub and center, really, but I was reading some subwoofer reviews and everyone was raving about the SVS. So, of course, I checked the classifieds, and there was a good deal on a plus/2. Bought it, thinking my current sub would be easy to sell. Well, it wasn't. So when I finally got a hit on it, the dude wanted to buy my center speaker as well, they kinda go together (Dali Helicon, the sub is like a stand for the center). Said I had to consider that, because selling the center hadn't crossed my mind. So I checked around, and the local hifi dealer gave me a super deal on the Euphonia. And here I am... In phantom mode with my MS4s and a big hole in my front row, money burning in my pocket waiting for the CS4 to arrive next week!

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Hello every one.

I don't know how many people are aware but Australia and new zealand have been arguing over who invented the pavlova for so long that they have now spent tens of thousands of dollars researching historical records and the like trying to find a definitive answer. They haven't.

I also discovered that for a country so small (population wise 23 million) we seem to have invented a lot of world changing things. Although 1 or 2 of these aren't world firsts most are.

Morning!

Gee, I have always thought that pavlova was an Australian invention, just goes to show. I have to admit to not being mad about it, meringue is not really my thing, too sweet for my tastes.

Re: The SWAMP! - Volume One

Pavlova is a dessert named after Anna Pavlova, a russian ballerina. It is basically a meringue that is filled with whipped cream and fresf fruits.

This is what Wikipedia have to say about it.
