LOL never even thought about the data usage part. Those parents who have their kids phones on their own limited data plans may be in for a big bill at the end of the month

DATA use was my first question. I check my son regularly and if he's over his allowance, I shut him off in the myATT app. No questions. Done.
To the others comments about driving while using a phone. I drive a truck(mine) as part of my job, and you would not believe how many morons I see cruising at 70+mph while their face is pointed into their laps where they think "hey nobody can see my phone down here" while checking Facebook or whatever. Yes the posture gives it away lol. It makes me feel like pushing them into the ditch with my truck for thinking their status or whatever stupid thing is more important than the safety of other idiotic drivers. I wish there was a way to shut off a phone while moving in a vehicle and still be able for it to know the difference between being used by the driver or passenger(maps or nav notwithstanding) That way a passenger could still use it.

The conspiracy theorist in me is entertained by an app with access to a user's GPS location and camera telling them to wander around into all kinds of interesting locations, like parking lots for public facilities of all kinds, loading docks, points of entry, etc... I'm always skeptical about the owners of all this collected data having purely benign intentions. But I'm also not willing to say the sky is falling... at least not yet.
Lot's of apps use the GPS of your phone and many all so use the camera (in some cases for reasons I do not know why). Most of the Interesting locations in Pokémon are from another game that the same company did before. Pokémon is not the first of its kind but it's the first of its kind that the News is paying attention to.

I like what some carriers are doing where your Data will not count towards Netflix and Youtube. I think one has added Pokémon to the list but this is all about getting sales.

For the driving thing, there are many apps that do what you are talking about. My HTC have an app called HTC Drive (I think) that can tell when you are driving and limit what your phone does but not very many people use it. It would be nice for this to be mandatory but it would have to be across the board to ALL phones and I just can't see that happening. Plus who would make the APP, it can't be just one company as you can't have a monopoly.

Re: Pokemon Go

Speaking of other apps using GPS, camera, etc. News came out that Pokemon Go was not made entirely by Nintendo. After the app was released and it became a big hit, shares gained a lot in value but now, news was released that The Pokemon Company in collaboration with Niantic Labs made the app instead and that Nintendo only owns 32% of the Pokemon Company, shares fell in value.

Re: Pokemon Go

I downloaded the game and signed up the day it came out. However, once I learned you had to walk around and find stuff, I immediately uninstalled it

I think Pokemon are cute and all that but I didn't want to walk around trying to find invisible things on my phone. I'm sure it provides a lot of exercise for kids who need it.
