Re: Pokemon Go

Personally, I think the game is going to be trouble. Already several people have died because thay have not been paying attention and countless injuries have occurred. There was a huge pile up on a freeway because someone decided thy had to stop because they saw one while they were driving.

Re: Pokemon Go

Yeah, I don't know why people are not aware of their surroundings. They are just looking on their phones and going after those characters with no common sense.

Funny thing is that now a real-life dating site has created an app called PokéDates

Yes, you can now chase after those characters with a date! lol...

The pile up thing is really bad but I take all the other stories with a grain of salt. Pokémon Go is a great news story right now. It sounds like people are getting injured left, right and center but people get injured all the time from being on their phones. I would bet you that a lot more people get hurt from looking at Facebook then Pokémon Go. It's just that right now "Kid gets hurt from Pokémon Go" is a better headline than "Kid gets hurt from updating his status on Facebook"

This is a big problem not just for Pokémon. Texting is the biggest problem. Adults use to laugh at kids walking around being glue to a phone. The News had lots of stories, commercials on tv and posters. Now that Adults are doing it (look at the car beside you at a red light the next time you drive) the news is not carrying the stories as much anymore.

I did get it on my phone just to see what it is like and I will say that 16 year old me would have loved the game. My daughter does not have data on her phone so there is not much point for her to have the game.

Re: Pokemon Go

Not my cup of tea but if it gets people off the couch and active good on ya. As far as driving and playing well we all know that's a bad idea. I think cell phones in general are the most dangerous element to driving. I'm guessing they kill more drivers than alcohol does.

Re: Pokemon Go

LOL never even thought about the data usage part. Those parents who have their kids phones on their own limited data plans may be in for a big bill at the end of the month

Re: Pokemon Go

The conspiracy theorist in me is entertained by an app with access to a user's GPS location and camera telling them to wander around into all kinds of interesting locations, like parking lots for public facilities of all kinds, loading docks, points of entry, etc... I'm always skeptical about the owners of all this collected data having purely benign intentions. But I'm also not willing to say the sky is falling... at least not yet.

Re: Pokemon Go

I talked to a few folks and the main complain with the game is battery drainage. It takes a lot of your power. Data usage might be there but so far from folks I talked to they were more concerned about the battery usage.
And of course, people getting injured when focusing on the phone instead of actually looking where they are going. lol.
