Re: College Football begins... your thoughts!

Well... Bama is opening against Clemson... a tough opener no doubt.

It will be interesting to see what Saban can do in his second year with a mediocre talented team.

How about 6 SEC teams in the Top 25... with the Georgia Bulldogs at #1.

WHOA NELLIE! That is what I am talking about. ROLL TIDE!!!

Saban seems to have the boys prepared or either Clemson is/was highly over rated.

Overall not a lot of super interesting games this weekend, but opening weekend is always interesting in itself.

Re: College Football begins... your thoughts!

I think some of both. Saban will get the most out of what he has and Clemson really looked like they didn't have things well tuned. I suspect they will improve greatly and win the ACC. Alabama and Auburn both scare me when the Tigers or Gators have to play them. Once again, the SEC will be brutal. With Georgia playing so many tough games on the road, I just can't see them staying at the top.

I agree... Georgia has it tough. If they win out... they will deserve to be king daddy of them all.

Re: College Football begins... your thoughts!

Hmm, after what I saw this w/e, not likely. Unless a different team shows up. But it is early in the season. The Gators looked pretty slow starting agains Miami but got it together. Maybe Ohio State will get things tuned by then. I don't expect a blowout but I doubt they can muster a victory.

I have to hope USC wins and goes on the BCS Championship. After all, someone other than the Big Ten needs to take a turn being humiliated by the SEC in the Championship game.

I believe USC will beat up on them pretty bad. I am not sure USC won't beat up on everyone they play this year.

Bama seems like they played just well enough to win.

Re: College Football begins... your thoughts!

lcaillo, thanks for letting Bo keep in practice with your Tigers. Bo knows defense. His brother looks like he has a clue, too.

Go Big Red! But I have a feeling Nebraska's game this weekend against Virginia Tech will not go as well as the first 3.

Hmmm, a Nebraska fan, eh. I can remember a few bowl games back in the 70s and 80s that requires some revenge...ROAR

Ah, yes, I fondly remember some of those. I don't believe we'd be able to give LSU a game this year, though.

Ole Miss, oh my!

I have to give it to Shane Matthews. Before the season, he said that Ole Miss was the one game he was most concerned about for the Gators. He felt that Nutt would have them ready by this point in the season and UF might be asleep...dead on prediction.

Yes, some big upsets this week. 'Bama is looking good against Georgia right now.

On the other hand, the Cornhuskers are looking a little shaky to start with. I'm watching time-shifted, so just end of 1st Q as I type. Bo knows defense, but do the players?

I've been telling Sonnie not to underestimate Saban and the Tide. Alabama and Auburn are always the most scary games for LSU. We barely got by Auburn, and from the looks of things, Alabama will be like the old days...a long night.

All I can say is WOW!

It started with USC, then Florida, then Georgia... 3 top 5 teams knocked off this weekend. I am not so sure being ranked high is a good thing.

Re: College Football begins... your thoughts!

Well, the Gators looked quite sloppy again this week. If they don't get it together my Tigers from LSU will have fun in the swamp.

As great as the two programs are, I can't help but comment on the fans. There are a large number of "fair weather fans" in both BR and Gainesville. The talk here for the last week has been stunning, with people calling for changes in the coaching staff. I saw the same in BR for years, but never with a coach the caliber of Meyer, nor with such a fine staff. Both the Swamp and Death Valley are noted for being tough places to play. My view from the inside is that they can also be two of the quietest places in the country when either team is not playing well. I can recall games in both places where you could hear a pin drop. I think UF fans may actually be worse.

Re: College Football begins... your thoughts!

I thought the Tide played very sloppy as well. The most turnovers and the most penalties of any game... I think more in this one game than we've had all year. We struggled against Tulane after beating Clemson and we struggled against Kentucky after beating Georgia. I hope this is not a pattern after winning the big ones and then we slip up against a lesser component. Although it remains to be seen whether Kentucky is for real or not... they may be better than I am thinking. Tulane on the other hand is not that good... Army stomped them this weekend. BUT... I suppose I should be happy anyway, since we appear to be doing better than I thought we would in Saban's second year.

I am actually a tad bit shocked that we remained at #2 this week. I see Missouri and Texas both consistently scoring big points against their opponents and figure they would jump Bama. I just don't see Bama being on the same level with those teams. I know they beat Georgia, but I think either of those teams would beat Georgia even worse.

I thought the Gators played somewhat sloppy early on, but they poured it on the second half, especially the 4th quarter.

Both LSU games against the Gators and the Tide should be interesting.

As will Texas and Oklahoma. Looks like the Big 12 is every bit as good as the SEC this year, at least at the top.

*mumblemumble-Pederson-mumblemumble-Callahan-mumblemumble*

Speaking from the bottom half of the Big 12 - I guess I'll have to cheer for the conference, instead of the team. I really didn't expect miracles, but I was hoping for a bit better showing against Mizzou. Sad to have the first game they've won at NU in 30 years be by that kind of score. Please to notice that our coach did not blow his top in public at a ref this weekend. I'd imagine the eruption(s) occurred in the privacy of the locker room.

It's going to be (another) very long, painful year for Big Red fans, I fear. I have revised my expectations downward.

boomer sooner. yay. hook 'em horns. woo.

I thought for a little bit there that the Cornhuskers might give them a challenge, but it did quickly thereafter get out of hand. Mizzou is no doubt explosive this year. To think that our little ole Troy University beat them a few years ago. They were the first Division 1 team we beat.

Re: College Football begins... your thoughts!

Hmm. This thread seems to have gone kind of quiet.

I was pleased with NU forcing Texas Tech to OT, even if we lost. The Iowa State game went better than expected, and Baylor not as good as expected, but both were wins. Oklahoma today. That might not be pretty.
