Re: Winter weather in LA (Lower Alabama)

Hey Tony... oh no. We usually get snow about once every 3-5 years. We had 12" of snow one time back in the late 70's. In the 90's we had about 6" on one occasion. Here we have had it 3-4 times in 14 years, but nothing over about 3-4".

Re: Winter weather in LA (Lower Alabama)

We enjoy the change is weather seasons... and even enjoy the snow all along, but it does cripple us and basically bring us to a standstill. We just don't have the resources to deal with it. Our counties and cities have to close roads, everything closes up... businesses, schools, the works. If we had it happen all the time like up north, it would be different. We would have to be prepared and learn to work with and through it.

Understandable, nothing ever closes here. People just continue to go about their daily activities. The only time schools close if if it snows more than 2ft and the temp is below -35f and that's very rare.

Yeah... we saw pics of all the traffic jammed up on I-65 in B'ham... it was crazy!

People were stuck in their vehicles and most of them had to abandon them on I-65 and walk somewhere. I cannot begin to imagine he madhouse it has been getting that all sorted out.
Hundreds of kids had to spend Tuesday night at their schools. This happened so very fast that nobody could get anywhere.

Hug your pet today!

Re: Winter weather in LA (Lower Alabama)

I don't understand why the city governments did not heed the warnings. Our local communities down this way had everything shut up and closed early on. I guess sometimes it just takes it actually happening for people to believe it. "Oh... it will be okay." NO... it WILL NOT be okay... DING DING DING! Heed the warnings!!!
