Re: wow.....new members

Actually this would be off topic to Home Theater General Discussion so I've moved it.

We average about 25-30 new members per day... I wish more of them would post though.

wow, I didn't know that many joined a day. I wonder if its just so they can get REW .

Re: wow.....new members

Yes, many join simply to download REW... no doubt about it. The good thing is we manage to hold on a few of those all along. Many of them are studio professionals and recording engineers... they care nothing about chatting home theater, etc.

We also do rather well with several popular search terms on the net. A lot of people will join, but they just don't post. They may join so that they can search for answers. Some will post, some will eventually post at some point in time, others will come and go. It's the nature of a forum.

Already at 23 newbies today... we could hit 40.

Re: wow.....new members

We've thought about it, but then those that only want REW would just more or less waste space just to get a few posts. We feel like forcing people to post would irritate more than it would do good and we'd probably ruin any chance of ever getting them to actually participate on a regular basis.

Re: wow.....new members

You guys should upgrade to optical disk media, then you would not have to REW all the time.

I thought everyone was joining to see all the cool stuff being posted about how to make your own screen over in the screens section.

I have only been a member for a short while and I have been noticing the number of people online is steadily growing. I am only really involved with DIY Screen stuff but I think this site deserves more attention. The site is well organized and the administrators appreciate and encourage well organized presentations of information. That makes this a very attractive place for those interested in gathering, presenting, and sharing discussions on various topics relevant to HT.

Those looking for controversy for it's own sake will not likely linger here but those wanting to share information, as well as enjoy the fellowship and community here will stay on and join in. Many people may never post but I have had many private messages from people expressing their appreciation for my efforts. I always encourage them to pay us back by posting about their own experiences or at least a photo or two of their accomplishments.

Opps! I'm already here! Sometimes I get confused and try to pass on the good word about HTS to my friends on the forum I think I'm on. Well that is when I am actually on the forum I think I'm on as opposed to being on the forum I think I'm talking about when I think I'm on another forum where people would benefit from knowing about HTS, assuming I'm not actually on HTS when I am telling people about it and where to find it. If you know what I mean!

No sense preaching to the choir, Eh!

This site is growing and setting a good example as well!

Re: wow.....new members

Thanks for the kind words Tiddler...

We have dropped in new members per day, but we still average around 20 per day, which is not bad at all really. More and more are posting frequently, which is also another positive. The really great thing about all this is we are still in our extreme infancy as a new forum... and say wow again, look what we've already accomplished. No one... not the first home theater forum anywhere, has done what we have done in as short a period of time. Hmmm... give us the same length of time that others have been around and whoa.... reckon what will be happening at the Shack then...

Re: wow.....new members

Yep, I reckon this forum is going to be mammoth, bigger than most of the current A/V forums.

Glad I joined when I did, I reckon there is a certain status (imagined??) to early join dates on older forums. It's almost like post count, for some reason people always look at join date and post count as if it is a gauge of ones knowledge and authority on a subject .

Oooooh!! new smilies

after the above post I may need this one

Re: wow.....new members

I think that you'd be right about the 'problems' of having a minimum post count before being able to download REW Sonnie.

Either you make it free (thanks guys, I love it and use it heaps) or you don't. Once you've made the decision then that's it.

I would see no advantage in having people make dumb posts just to get to a certain number, just see what happens when a minimum post count is made part of some of the giveaways here!!! " I'm making this post so I can qualify for the giveaway". Dunno about you guys, but I get a bit annoyed when I waste a couple of minutes of my life on idiotic posts like those ha ha. Time is precious isn't it??

I must say that this forum has gotta be one of the most polite and helpful I've ever come across. No question is too stupid to be asked (although at times I can sense a slight exasperation when people don't bother to read the helpfiles, which of course they should!!) and the combine knowledge here is first rate.

I especially love the care chapel on this forum, the fact that it is used and people are always willing to give whatever help and advice they can just proves to me what a great forum that Sonnie and ALL THE GUYS behind the scenes have created here.

Thankyou to everyone on the HTS, I love being here.
