Surprising that it was a female... either way it is sad that these events continue to happen. My prayers go out as well.

What's sad is that the society/community in general does not want to accept respoinsibility for these events. Every action has a cause, some form of precurser/warning sign and a way to be prevented. But it seems that we either don't want the rammifications of accepting responsibility or we don't want to wear the costs of prevention. So the net result is someone flips of the rails and other people die.

Louisiana Tech and Northern Illinois Univ shootings coming back to back is likely no coincidence. A media obsessed with covering these lunatics ad nauseum for ratings purposes does us no favors. Regarding society's responsibility to prevent these horrible events, we should stop giving them so much attention. Of course these are unspeakably aweful tragedies, but let us grieve them privately and place blame where it is deserved -- on the shooters. Let's not forget personal responsibility when analyzing cause and effect. My deepest sympathies and prayers to all those families touched by these events.

Anywhere. It's pretty easy to get a gun in the US.

The 2nd Ammendment to the U.S. Constitution guaruntees our right to bear arms, and the overwhelming majority of Americans to so quite responsibly. They are used for defense of family and home, hunting and sporting. Again, the blame for homocidal maniacs should not be on society or legal access to firearms. It lies squarely on the shoulders of the criminal. Banning civilian-owned firearms only endagers the law-abiding citizen, as the criminal usual obtains their weapons by illegal means.

And thus starts the endless debate where one rhetorical argument flies after another in some vain attempt to convince someone else that there hardened life beliefs are not only wrong but embarrisingly stupid. Good luck, I'm just stepping across to the swamp for some not so futile chit chat.

This reminds me of a funny family guy clip.

"You think the language in the second amendment is clear enough, you know about the right to bear arms?"

"Of course it's clear, every American has the right to hang a pair of bear arms on their wall, how could that possibly be misconstrued?"

I don't intend to set off a debate or even change anyone's mind about these issues (at least in this forum). Since the Shack is for music, home theater, speakers, subs, etc... we'll get back to that. Still friends?

Always friends, I'm just a little sensitive to debates that can only be argued on heresay and personal opinion, like the gun debate, the abortion debate, RE in schools, and the "what is science?" debate. And I could forsee one starting.
