DIY Aluminum Pigment

Hey guys,

I just came across the weirdest thing. Some artists make their own "Silver" pigment. You use normal cheap cooking oil as heat absober, add salt as grinding material as salt does not dissolve in oil. The you just add small cut peices of ordinary aluminum foil from your kitchen. Put all in a blender and of you go. When it seems "fine" enough, you dilute the blend with nailpolish remover and filter it through a coffe filter paper.

Sounds crazy but maybe its just so crazy that it may work...

On the same topic I have now found pure high grade aluminum silver paint. Regrettably I think its only sold domesticly.

It says "guldbrons" on the bottle on the pic but it the have silver as well. Its even more expensive than the "hobbylack" I found before. The bottle in the link costs $10, and thats for 50ml !

Re: DIY Aluminum Pigment

The idea of making your own aluminum paint with aluminum foil and a blender sounds interesting, but I don't think we could get the size flakes we are after with that method. It might be worth trying sometime just to see what happens.

The Auto Air Aluminum paints we use are sold internationally. Here is a list of their international distributors:
