Re: Black Widow Ultra™ Development

Any suggestions on what I should use with a W1070 and 80" screen in a room with some ambient light during the day? At night it's very dark though.

I'm just a little confused because it seems there are 3 colors this can be made from?

Do I just use Sherwin-Williams 'Unique Gray'? How much paint and what ratio will I need for an 80" screen with the projector mounted 9 feet away on the ceiling.

Also, any rolling tips? Is it just like a normal wall?

Thank you

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is any help but in Ireland Dulux Steel Grey 2 has a colour code (00NN 53/000). Maybe if you quote this at your local DIY, they may have it in other brands.

Same conditions:

As for the ratio, i would say 4:1.

If i were you though, i wouldn't have gone to a mix that raises gain with a 80'' screen and 1070 as my projector.

The screen is currently FlexWhite and has not been painted. Any suggestions on what to do instead? Should I just keep it white? Ambient light is pretty low most of the day. I would like sharper contrast though

Just go with an OTS Neutral Gray.

Re: Black Widow Ultra™ Development

First of all want to say thank you for all that work you guys put in to this, some of you should get a Nobel prize or something like that, because guy like me trying to save a few buck.
that being said I read thru the Black Widow threads and I don't understand most of the stuff due to my English is my second language ( more of the shortcuts you are using) .So I'm building a new pj screen new wall, drywall,kilz2 primer and I'm stuck on finish paint . Would some please tell me what kind of paint I need from Sherwin William . I need brand name finish (matt or flat) and color or tinted to bla bla color, and with or without the AAA.
I got a Mitsubishi HC1600 pj
Throw distance 18'
Screen size 138''
Viewing distance 16'
The room I'm setting up is dark like a cave
thanks a lot Gog bless

Re: Black Widow Ultra™ Development

I recently purchased a gallon of Image Quality Labs ~18% Neutral Gray (N5) Interior Wall Paint. I'd like to share a sample of this paint with the forum for reference purposes.

A quick 3 measurements with my Colormunki Photo yielded the following readings:

L*a*b* 47.8, -0.4, 0.4
L*a*b* 48.2, -0.3, 0.4
L*a*b* 48.0, -0.3, 0.4

which to my understanding is pretty good for out-of-the-can performance.

The paint is pretty dark (approximately Munsell N5) and would make an excellent candidate for someone attempting a dark screen to enhance perceived black levels and also have a bright projector.

I've added AAA (the new mix) to half of the paint and will begin painting soon. I will gladly submit a sample of the paint with the AAA additive too.

Mechman, please send me information regarding where I should send the sample.
