Re: Is it this simple??? ...DIY Upgraditis is itching.

Actually, your calculations are off a bit, David. Parallel resistances are calculated this way, where x and y are the resistances to be paralleled, and z is the resulting resistance:

1/x+1/y=1/z

So your resistance in your first case would actually be 1/8+1/4=3/8=2.66 Ohms.

One way to check your answer is that your final resistance will always be lower than the lowest single resistance in parallel.

Running through all the permutations, you have two 4 Ohm buttkickers, and two 2 Ohm voice coils.
The buttkickers can be either series 8 Ohms, or parallel 2 Ohms.
The voice coils can be series 4 Ohms, or parallel 1 Ohm.

Series and parallel possibilities from the above list, + for series, || for parallel:
1. 8+4=12
2. 8+1=9
3. 2+4=6
4. 2+1=3
5. 8||4=2.667
6. 8||1=0.888
7. 2||4=1.333
8. 2||1=0.667

Since you said you wanted to get the most out of your amp, and it's rated stable into 2 Ohms, my suggestions is to go with number 5, the buttkickers in series, voice coils in series, and then parallel the two together for 2.667 Ohms. If the buttkickers have too little kick at that point, then try number 4, buttkickers in parallel, voice coils in parallel, then series them together for 3 Ohms.

I would advise against using any of the last three, for obvious reasons.

Is your brain leaking out your ears yet? Here's a little calculator I found for you, it makes it blindingly easy to parallel resistances together, as well as other things.

Thank you ...I will try them

Sorry, Carnac the Magnificent cannot reveal these secrets because exact knowledge of the future risks destroying space/time. You'll just have to wait and see!
