Would this make a good DIY passive radiator sub

I have an older KLH AV5001 tower speaker that has a 12" sub, and a 12" passive radiator.
What are your thoughts on pulling the sub and PR and building a better box for them?
Also, does a sub and PR have to be matched? For example, could I buy a better Dayton 12" sub, and use this KLH PR?

You would probably just be better off buying new all together. It would be hard to tell without measuring what the tune of the PR is on that woofer section. Buying a better sub like a dayton would probably eat that PR alive. Take a look at the Exodus stuff. He has some nice subs that aren't expensive and has matching PR's to go with them.

Also look at Creative Sound Solutions . There is a special on the TRIO12 sub and Passive Radiators.
