Anyone ever tried this? Kind of seems like an ultimate solution, but I'm sure I'm missing something.

I'm thinking this would be a bad idea.
You'll be reinforcing some frequencies and not others.

I'd stick to the same size and tuning.

Your low end capability will be restricted by the higher tuned sub assuming you want a flat in room FR. I see no benefit in it.
