My IB...

Certainly not a new install, but there's much IB interest in these parts so I figured I'd post mine. Quite modest as IB's go, it's a pair of Ascendant Atlas 15's (discontinued) in a 128ft^3 closet (~5x Vas). The coils are wired for a Qts of 0.57, if I recall correctly, but can be varied from .4 to .8.

Sound is, well, like clean bass and SPL is certainly adequate in my 1400^3 room.

Nice work Jack. What amp are you powering them with?

Re: My IB...

Thanks, bro'. I've been using one of my Buttkicker amps to power them, but they don't need anywhere near that much power for full excursion. I've never heard them bottom, though, since the design apparently prevents it.

Cool beans Jack. Those are some impressive lookin' subs.

That color looks almost like the color in my room.

When you say that the design apparently prevents bottoming, what do you mean by that?

Re: My IB...

The color is actually darker/richer than the flash shows it, always looks kinda Barney-ish with a flash.

I think they were designed in such as way that the spider hits the plate before the voice coil can hit the bottom. Been a while, though, and I can't find the old site anymore.

Re: My IB...

Nahh, a DEQ2496. Kinda tired of fighting my room, though, and the IB is not really in a good place acoustically. Unfortunately, it's the only place and wall I could pull it off (two exterior walls and another off the main hallway). Been playing around/measuring with a couple small sealed subs and adding bass traps, so I might retire the IB soon. With only two 15's, I'd at least be able to match the displacement easily and gain placement advantages even if I lose in other areas.

Re: My IB...

Man, all this IB talk lately has me wondering how to set one up in my room...Possibly using my walk-in closet assuming that the clothes would help drop the Qtc down a bit

You could use that closet for all your fiberglass clothing.

That's what I'm a gonna use... the attic! However, I may wish I had something similar to what Jack's got when it's all said and done. That attic is one hot momma... scorchin'.. sizzlin'... being up there just 5 minutes makes me feel like someone lit the grill under me and then drenched me with somethin' wet.

That's why they invented nightime, Sonnie.

Choose a night after a cloudy day to go up there.

You don't have clouds where you live? Now you tell me!

Just hang from your toes (like I do) and you'll be alright.
