Help with subs and IB type R??

Alright guys I am very new to the idea of IB. I have 2 ED 13ov2 subs that are okayed for IB. http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...products_id=35 I had planned on building 2 15x15x30 boxes tuned to 20hz for them. But after looking at the lay out of the home I am about to buy, I think I could pull off an IB into the garage very easialy. My question is can I use 2 alpine type R 12's in my IB setup also? All subs are 4ohm DVC. I will be powering them with an ep2500. This is all gear I have and don't think I could talk the wife into anything else.
So will this work. I really have no idea about IB, just read that "its kick ***" and "it goes low" So sign me up!!

Thanks!

We don't recomend mixing brands/sizes/etc. of subs in an IB. Make sure that all of the drivers that you use are identical. Second, we don't normally recommend using 12" drivers. Thomas_W (the IB Guru) does use 12's but he has a dozen of them. 15's or 18's are a much better choice since they can easily move more air than a 12.

Sell you ED's and your Alpines and pick up four IB 15's from Fi or AE Speakers. You will be much happier with your sub.

Re: Help with subs and IB type R??

Thanks for your responce. I got the same one from Thomas_W at ib cult. Looks like IB will be on my wish list. Now I am just trying to think what I can sell to get 4 15's. I didn't see a price range for the Fi's, any guess on this for 4? I like the AE, just not sure if I would be killing them with a ep2500.

The Fi IB's are $209 each shipped in the lower 48 States and for orders of 4 or more they are $199.

We're all in this together!

Re: Help with subs and IB type R??

That is for an 18 ib correct? Just found pricing on cib that it is 129 for the 15's. Is this current? What is the recomended watts for the 15's, couldn't seem to find that. I think I would def be going for 4 15's for ease of wiring.
What would you guys suggest, the AE of the Fi?

Re: Help with subs and IB type R??

I think the Fi price is shipped and AE speakers will add shipping. Both will provide excellent bass if implemented properly. Flip a coin? Buy from the vendor closest (Fi is in Las Vegas while AE is in Green Bay)?

As for power, I model them in Unibox to determine when they hit xmax at 10hz. Then I get an amp that is about that size. With proper calibration, they should never reach xmax at normal listening levels.

Re: Help with subs and IB type R??

This is not my advice, but I'm questioning why not get 2 more ED 13ov2, and run 4 subs in a IB. Since the ED's are on sale you won't be able to get much for them.

Re: Help with subs and IB type R??

That would be my first choice, but after doing more research (IB gurus telling me) the 13Ov.2 isn't that great for IB. Between them not being the optimal driver and me possible killing them with an ep2500 I am leaning towards 4 15's. I would just hate to go through all the work of an IB (Read as "cutting a big hole in my wall") and it not be GREAT. Maybe I'll just sit on the 13Ov.2's till I can through them in an auto. Cause they are sexy.

Re: Help with subs and IB type R??

Also if for some reason I don't do IB I will use the ED's in dual 15x15x30 box's tuned to 20hz that ed designed for me, and pound em with power. The WAF is a little higher though (suprisingly) with a camoflagued hole in a wall, then 2 huge MDF boxes. Imagine that. LOL
