| Planning My IB I'm currently building our new home. We are nearly done so it is time to start building the Theater Room. The only feature which needs to be mentioned for the false wall (IB) is that there will be a vented louver door in the back right for an entrance. I beileve I have read in other posts that such a door would allow the space behind it to be counted for its 10 X VAS. By the looks of the plans and pictures am I on the right track? | ||||

| Re: Planning My IB If you have an 8 foot ceiling, then the Component Room has 276 cubic feet. What is the Vas of the AE 18's? | ||||

| Re: Planning My IB The two configurations (illistrations below) I am think about is the woofers in the wall or the manifold at the center. I will be using two AE 18"s. Is there a difference in output, sound and the amount of air they push out between these two configurations? I prefer the woofers in the wall it allows the screen to be dropped 4" which will allow a diagonal screen of 110. If there are any manifolds designs which will not exceed 15" of height this might be more of a consideration. The center channel speaker is a Onix Rocket 200 and will be built inwall perferribly. I'm also not looking forward to do the eq wizard. Is this absolute necassary? It seem just a little overwhelming right now. Please look at what I wish to do, give me some suggestions. | ||||

| Re: Planning My IB OOOps sorry I ment 15" Here are there stats T/S Parameters: FS: 16.0Hz Qts: 0.70 Vas: 439L Z: 8ohm 1WSPL: 86.0dB correct stats now,,, I shouldn't be trying to do this during work,, Sorry for the mistakes guys. http://www.aespeakers.com/drivers.php?driver_id=8 Last edited by Belzarrath; 07-02-08 at 12:08 AM.. | ||||

| Re: Planning My IB I'm not sure what effect the vented louver door will have on your IB as the door will allow the backwave of the woofer to reach the front wave. You might wind up with a cencellation issue. Hopefully someone who knows for sure will chime in here. | ||||

| Re: Planning My IB What I would do if I were you, is frame in a wall by your right main speaker and build a door somewhere down the right wall or even around the corner if you could (dont know what your whole floor plan is) and kick that 3' wall for your back wave room and keep that open. Also I would only use a manifold with your drivers. Thats what I would do. Hope this helps. Oh yeah those numbers for the ib15's dont look right. | ||||

swore that was the way to proceed. Am I to understand that the vented door will not work for my vas. The 3' room is insulated, with r21, and rockwool all sides and ceiling. Any more suggestions of guidance will be appriated. Thanks for the help.

| Re: Planning My IB Maybe, I need to give more information. The vented door, opens from the bathroom. The bathroom will be closed in, and entrance to the theater room will also have either an acoustical curtain or more likely a door. I will redo my sketch up to include these rooms for a better layout. Once again,, thanks for your input and interest. Parrish | ||||

| Re: Planning My IB I forgot to ask. Are you on a tight budget for your subs? Why I ask, because if you werent I would up your budget to 400 and get 2 Fi ib18's for you theater. Just thought I would ask. ![]() | ||||

| Re: Planning My IB Either that or plan now for adding another pair of 15's in the future in case you decide the original pair is not enough. | ||||

I can get 4 AE 15" for $400. 4 FI15, I think, would be close in cost so either is fine by me. Putting the woofers in the wall would be the easiest, but as mentioned, a monifold could work. Is there an advantage to either? Problem with the manifold is I would have to have two of them, unless anyone knows of a configuration which has a low profile and the drivers would not raise the center channel higher than 18".

| Re: Planning My IB Again this is what I would do. ![]() I would get 4 drivers. You can get 2 now and get 2 later or all at once, which ever you want/afford. Then I would make 2 manifolds one manifold for 2 drivers. You should measure for the best location for you subs, but with the 2 manifolds you'll be fine. Anyways I would stick one manifold opening just inside your left main speaker on the wall and the other manifold opening just inside your right main speaker. As per the pic below. ![]() This pic is just to give you a idea of what the back will look like. ![]() | ||||

| Re: Planning My IB Well since I still have paint open I will show you something eles that you should do as well. Very easy. ![]() Since the one manifold by your left main speaker is so close to the wall, you should put atleast 4" of some good fiberglass insulation along that wall. This is done to cancel any waves from bouncing back to the driver. You can see the new red line I made in this pic. ![]() cheers | ||||

| Re: Planning My IB Great,, Thanks,, All exterior wall are insulated with 6" fiberglass and the front wall of the IB room is insulated with 3" rockwall, inside the IB room is the 6" fiberglass and 3" rockwool. I hope that will be enough to cancel any waves. Ill start researching size shape of manifold for the fi15" and port size and see how well this fits into the wall. Thanks for all the help. After this weekend Ill take more photos and post them. The progress will be slow after this, the house needs to be finished before i blow our extra on the TH room. | ||||

| Re: Planning My IB heh You got that right. ![]() There werent to many 18's on the market when I built my setup. Im just trying to keep up with the times. Its a never ending cycle of upgarding. ![]() cheers Edit: I just thought I would let you know that 2 ib18's have about the same output as 4 15's and that why I want to go with the ib18's. I just want to get 2 now and then add 2 later, cause you know 2 is never enough. Just thought I would share that with yeah.Last edited by titch--; 07-05-08 at 03:41 AM.. | ||||

| Re: Planning My IB Hmmmm,, I'll have to look into the 18" some more. I'm using a Peavey amp,, not sure the wattage its packed away. I'm also not sure if I could do a manifold in the center of the screen wall with a pair of 18s. I would have to place them in the wall to use the pair, or buy 4,, and thats,,,, not in the budget, for now. Thanks again guys for the help and suggestions. Ill post picts again if your interested. | ||||

| Re: Planning My IB Well, I hope some of you still will find this thread and guide me through my project. We are moved in to the new house, and I'm at the stage where the Ht room is needing to be completed. Current state of Ht. Front screen wall ![]() Back of room (sorry for the hoses, Filling up radiant floors at the time) ![]() I have been bumbling about trying to figure which IB to build. First desire: 2 FI 18" To go this route I must go array. A transmition manifold would shorten the projection screen size to a size which would make a HT room rediculous. 20"- port 12"- RSC200 2"- trim 10"- suffit. Leaves me with 48" width for the screen. I NEED ATLEAST 55" With an array I can achieve this. The back wall of the component room is concrete, so I can brace the screen wall well. My worry is of the baffle step. I am not sure if it applies to an IB array and its effects. New design. ![]() The second option because of money would be to switch to 4 AE 15" and do two ports. My main concern with this build is weather my Peavey 8.5c will push those well enough at a 4ohm load Peavey stats: 425w 4ohms both channels driven 1100w 4ohms bridged. second is the displacement. with 2 18" I get 72600 4 AE15" I get 61420 So, my question is,,, which route would you go? I have noticed that this forum leans towards the manifold side, I'm not sure why? Thanks for your help and any input. | ||||
