IB Grate - Killer WAF!

Guys - I dont have an IB yet, just a "lowly" HSU MKII, but I'm droolling already. Been thinking about how to sell this with the wife (avid Southern Living / Veranda kinda girl.) We have this "thing" in our den that hangs on the wall and is rather artistic. The attached image makes it look more frilly than it looks in our house, and may or may not be attractive to you based on style. Just wanted to throw an idea out there. I suspect it would look best with some acoustic cloth behind it, colored similar to the surrounding wall.

That would work all on it's own... just pain the manifold interior flat black and it will look great, you could also experiment with shades of gray so the grille stands out a little if you like. I'd shoot for flat black first though and see how it looks.

Remember, for a 4 way 15" driver IB you'll need no less than a 14.5" x 14.5" opening.

The one we have is 24 X 36, so they come plenty big.. I bet there are dozens if not a hundred of these things, all different sizes and shapes.. Anyone used something like this?

Looks Great . It will make a perfect Grill for an IB setup.

If you go here, you can see that other people have used similar grills for their IB setup.

As for the "sell", I've always thought an IB would have a much higher WAF than your typical box/tube sub since it's hidden. Also, since you can probably build an IB that will out-perform your "lowly" HSU MKII for almost the same amount you can sell it for, seems like a easy sell!

Of course, it also depends on how crazy you go with your IB..

Time to play dirty!

Put a piece of black paper behind your wannabe IB grill then hang it on the wall where you want your real IB.

See if she notices your "artwork". She prefers another colour of paper? "You have such good taste, dear!"

Now start your IB construction from behind the wall!

You can call it your "secret vaulting horse project" if you like.

Even better if you have to work under the floor!

Well, I know it's not an original idea but you can't be too careful where women and HT are concerned!

on the IB thinking a top a bottom 60"x24" 2 sides 10"x60" 1 side /front 10"x24 no back
