| Re: Rear located IB Thanks guys! The manifolds are going to be visible in the next room, so I'm taking the time to put a poly finish on them. I did a test fit and found that the floor isn't level, so those nice plinths will need some packing. ![]() The opening into the lounge room turned out quite well though. ![]() Collo | |||

| Re: Rear located IB collo..........l think these jaycar drivers are great value for us guys down under .........if l was ever doing this again l'd go that route for sure, can't beat the price for displacement mate.........just keep adding drivers 'til you get the output needed! | |||

| | Re: Rear located IB Man...I just had a vision of you being blasted out of your chair and pinned to the back wall!!!! That is going to be an awesome setup.. I heard that type of system a number of years ago, only they were using just 2 15" per side, and I could feel my Spleen vibrating !! | |||

| Re: Rear located IB I think it is a very good idea you've applied Collo, no doubt in an attempt to please the wife. I'm talking about those shelves inbetween the drivers there, as a place for the wife to put her nicknacks no doubt. Won't the little teapots fall thru the holes you've made in those shelves??!!?? | |||

| Re: Rear located IB that could very well have been your first mistake!! ha ha. I'm certainly up for it if you are! Had a great time in melb recently, had the very great pleasure of meeting again Norpus and his IB. It was without a shadow of a doubt an enjoyable experience. Would be interesting to compare an 'aussie' IB ( meaning one using locally available drivers) to the type more commonly used OS. Long gone are the days when I would use transport that only used two wheels!! No matter what happens keep us informed as I can assure you your adventures are being followed with interest! | |||

| Re: Rear located IB If you make it up this way, give me a yell and we'll organise a meet. Ordered the EP200 today, but with the loss of the Behringer warehouse to fire recently I have to wait. There's a container due mid-Feb, so it depends on how many orders are ahead of me. There's supposed to be a BFD in there too! I can see myself ratting the Jaycar 350w amp out of my current setup before too long... ![]() | |||

| Re: Rear located IB no worries Collo, I think you could very well be getting a visitor in the next couple of months!! Hadn't heard about any fire, for the curiosity of us all what happened?? What are you going to use to do the equalizing? and give us a rundown on the rest of the system that this humungous IB will be fitting into. What is your primary purpose - HT or 2 ch? In any case, I think I speak for all of us , more ( much ) photos please! | |||

| Re: Rear located IB Apparently the Behringer warehouse in Melbourne burnt down just a couple of weeks ago, and their National stockpile was lost. I learnt this when I ordered a BFD through a local musician's supply, and it was confirmed when ordering an EP2500 through StoreDJ, who are in Melbourne. The advice was to get your order in and then wait for stocks to improve. The BFD will be used, along with REW to smoothen out the response. There should be enough headroom to play around with house curves. The system is basically for HT - when playing music I usually switch to stereo mode. The rest of the system comprises a Pioneer VSX-D711 which is 5.1 @ 110w/channel. Mains are Richter Wizzards, about 10yrs old but still working fine. The centre is a pair of Mission 707's in parallel which are on their last legs, but there's a new DIY on the way. Rears are some hand me downs, which work fine for DD, but struggle if a give them a dose of DTS. I'll see what I can do about some more photos.... | |||

| Re: Rear located IB The grilles neaten things up considerably... ![]() Rear view lookin' good ..... ![]() Waiting for thick silicone to cure ... Meanwhile I have to take one driver back because it's obviously been dropped. Should be having a test run about mid-week ![]() | |||

| Re: Rear located IB The first big day arrives! Powered up using my existing Jaycar amp ( 350w 6dB boost @ 35hz) Initially seemed not a lot better than what I've been running, but that was deceptive. After watching a movie right through, there's good power and more extension. Once the EP2500 & BFD arrive I'll have all the bottom end I dreamed of. Until then, I'm happy to re-discover some of my DVD's. | |||

| Re: Rear located IB G'day Collo 12 venoms and the EP2500 in a romm of 90m3 - should well and truly give you all the bass you want. I run 8 in a 120m3 room with only 100 watts each and have never pushed the limits of the system. Still plan to get a pro-amp but it just doesn't seem that urgent. My twin 12in HSU sono subs used to be the weak link in the audio chain. Now i feel the urge to upgrade the rest of the system. I put the IB together with some advice from Bill Cowan and as you have noted we tested the drivers free air and they get pretty scratchy at about 12.5mm. They seem OK to go past that but it sounds ugly so in a way this gives good built in protection - not that i have ever heard it since those initial tests. Oh - and for the record, some of my drivers were initialy very prone to tinsel slap, though that was probably exaccerbated by being mounted for down/up firing. BTW thanks for the pointer - it was a hit on your site that led me here. Cheers Bill | |||

| Re: Rear located IB yeah the ep2500 will make a big difference ib's are subtle yet very strong bass as you would've heard at norpus's place ( l'm yet to hear his setup , but have an ib myself with 4 avalanche drivers), my last sub was a custom 15" ported job and was of good quality imo, and coming from that to the ib was a culture change thats for sure , the ib just digs so deep compared to the other while the ported one had a little more top end punch . l'm sure once l eq things l'll get that back with the ib as well.l had a mate come over on the weekend for a demo of the ht and he'd just been to see eric clapton a couple of nights prior to this, and after a session of some music dvd's ( one with eric clapton in CREAM ) and of course just to show of the ib wotw ........ he was totally gobsmacked, saying if he had a system like this he'd doubt he'd ever go to a concert again , let alone the movies! So collo l think you'll be pretty happy once you get things dialed in and loosen those drivers up a bit cya Ken | |||

| Re: Rear located IB That's encouraging info guys! Here's a copy of my latest post over at "the cult" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The results make sense when we look at the WinISD predicted responses....I'm listening to the red one! ![]() Blue = IB using EP2500 - 670w Red = IB using Jaycar amp 350w, +6dB boost @ 35hz Green = Original sub using Jaycar amp 350w, +6dB boost @ 35hz Things will improve a lot when I move to the blue curve and add the BFD to flatten the response above 25hz. Room gain will lift the bottom end of these curves somewhat, so the final curve will be even better! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'll post the current REW response when I get the chance to measure it. I have to go and visit TitanAE and a few other "destinations" first.... ![]() Last edited by collo; 02-13-07 at 05:23 PM. Reason: bad spellin | |||

| Re: Rear located IB Here are the response as measured with REW The green trace is measured nearfield with the meter sitting on a cushion inside the manifold between the two bottom drivers The red trace is the current seating position between the two manifolds The blue trace is an alternative seating position I've been looking at. ![]() Here are the predicted responses after using a BFD to remove the +6dB boost of the Jaycar and to tame the peaks. It looks like the performance will be better at the current seat (red line) ![]() happy happy .... | |||

| Re: Rear located IB I've been getting away with a 20Hz + 16dB 120/60 BFD boost for ages now. I played with my upper cut filters a bit and managed to squeeze subjectively more power out of my IB. On Limp Bizkit I even managed to light all but one of the BFD bars. That is very unusual. | |||
