Sono sub questions

I apolagize...I ramble but I type what I think.
I am contemplating building a sonosub or two for the house that my wife and I will be renting.
The threads I have found have answered alot of questions...however I still have a few.

It will need to fit behind my TV stand. (40" from floor to top of tv + maybe about 7"-9" with DIY center channel ontop) So lets say I made a sono sub that was 50" tall including the mounting feet on the bottom.

Approxamently how many cuft would this net for me?
Can I produce a low tuning (sub 20 hz) in a tube this short?
What length and diamater of pvc would I need for this?
What are the required subwoofer specs required for this setup?

One other thing...Could I possibly connect 2 other sealed sono tubes of the same height on either side with 6" PVC to make a larger chamber to equal the same air space as a a 7' tall tube? (think of how the y-wing fighters on starwars look)

What are my design options if I decided to go with a Box style enclosure behind the stand but wanted a llt.

I understand sub enclosures but...I think I'm missing something on what makes a sllt so different.

Having just built my sonosub and no one mentioned i was making it too small, like half size, and then found out after it was built....even though i gave all my specs weeks in advance......ill just say this...

50" is way too small for a 15" driver in a 18" tube and i would highly recommend a 15" driver or larger. Turns out i should have gone 24" tube and 64" long.

I really dont think you can combine two tubes with a port, you would essentially be making a bandpass box. No program will aid in design in that. Id stay away from it.

I think your option is to build a box and look at the threads here as it will require a massive amount of bracing and alot of highly skilled wood working and alot of time.

Im looking at putting my sonosub on its side and laying it down as soon as my stuff comes so i can glue it all together......ill let you know how or if that even works.

which ever driver you choose be sure to model it with Win ISD and use the sonosub program to desing and tune your build. By the way i cant find the sonosub program even with searching....i know i downloaded it from here.....the win isd is in the subwoofer forum, not this one but the normal sub forum.

It sounds great, and it will rock any store bought sub. But i guess it could have been alot better.

It shakes the concrete floor when needed. It is not very loud, just as loud as my little cube in my build thread....just way deeper and with more meaning, esp down low. The little cubes tend to make a 25hz signal sound like a 35 or 40 hz signal......at least thats how i hear it.

I guess what im saying is the cube can be heard....the sonosub can be felt. Its funny how the little cube can handle the same power as a 15" driver though.....funny.

How many cubic feet the tube will have will depend on the diameter. How much do you want to spend on an amplifier and sub driver? Is this for HT?

A friend is renting out half of her house to my wife and I in a few months. We will share a living room so I want to set up my surround sound and build a sub enclosure.

Sono tube sounds like a fun experience...but a cube is not entierly out of the question.

Suppose the total height will be 47 inches. Subtract the baseplate, 4 inch legs and the endcaps leaves 39.25 inches for sub volume.
16 inch tube = 119 liters internal volume
18 inch tube = 153 liters
20 inch tube = 190 liters
22 inch tube = 230 liters
24 inch tube = 275 liters

From the above volumes, the volume of the sub and port must be subtracted to find the net volume of the enclosure.

You mentioned a LLT. The smallest volume for a LLT would be 12.5 cubic feet for an IXL-18. If the tube has a maximum height of 47 inches, then the diameter would have to be 28 inches. If you could state the maximum diameter of tube you would be willing to use, it would help to narrow it down. The net volume will determine what sub to use.
