I was wondering how you'd finish the edges of the wood and I think what you did with the chamfer is quite nice. Shows off the layers a little.

Well, despite your alleged one ugly corner somewhere, what I can see looks great. I'm also intrigued by the speakon connectors, and I will have to look into them for my next project.

Now... am I to understand you will be running this with a Mal-21 eventually???
Yeah, one ugly corner. The seven others are perfection. Uh huh. Hand-cut with small block plane by a true craftsman at the top of his game...

Speakons are great. They're just so clean and fool-proof compared to every other power connector I'm aware of.

Naw, the comment about being done before the Mal-21 or new LMS showed up was more about how, were I to start this project now, I'd probably use four of those drivers in two sealed dual-opposed boxes, rather than two of these older LMSs with four PRs. I went the PR route because I only found two of these drivers at the time (almost two years ago!), and I wanted more than one box, and more output. As is, current listening room has no space for the second box anyhow...

You have 2 of the LMS's and 4 pr's? I thought you only had one set. Did you already build both enclosures as well? Either way it's still one of the best bass drivers ever so you are in good shape.

+1 on the chamfers. They do add a nice look to the enclosure even if you did run into problems. I still really like the look of that black frame btw. I like my red one too but the black is more classy looking. Do you know what your tune ended up at?

This is one of a future pair, but no room for the other twin yet, so that set of driver/PRs will just have to chill even longer.
Nope, haven't built the second box. No room to use it, and would rather not try to store it. And at current building rate, it'd be done next summer, maybe...

Got to do some REW yesterday (with digital RS meter, since someone seems to have misplaced his Cross-Spectrum'd ECM8000), which shows good extension down to mid-teens after 20Hz 12dB/oct Butterworth HPF. So, guessing not so far from 15Hz tune, but no concrete evidence other than that. Corner-loaded as it has to be, the sub has really nasty notch at 40Hz, which I guess comes from listening position being smack in the middle of a 28ft x 15ft room.

Are you thinking of lowering your HPF then, or satisfied since it's only 12dB/oct?

That's part of what it takes to synthesize a 15Hz 24dB/oct HPF on the DCX2496. The other part is a boost at 20Hz. But if REW with RatShack SPL meter is to be believed, I need a cut at 20Hz just to stay flat. But that's a big if. Waiting for the elusive ECM8000 to surface...
