Re: AV15-X build thread.

I'm leaving for home today around 3:00, will hopefully have finished pics and first listening impressions later tonight. Tomorrow I will bring it back to my dorm room so I can get it hooked up to the rest of my stuff and see how it sounds.

Re: AV15-X build thread.

First of all, t-nuts SUCK, I'll go with hurricane nuts next time for sure. But after I got all them all put in i realized that i had no way to hook it up to a signal since the rest of my system is 150 miles away. What i ended up doing is using the aux input in my pickup with my laptop plugged in, then it went to the sub amp in my pickup, out to the line level inputs on my plate amp. Kind of a mess but it worked.

I only played some stuff out in our shop which is huge so I couldn't get a really good idea of what it can do but i got a pretty good idea. I played a Bass i love you, and the Boston acoustics woofer cooker and this sub is such a massive improvement over the old one its crazy. It was shaking everything hanging on the walls in the shop and i could hear the tin roof vibrating I will have listening impressions tomorrow when it gets to its home at my dorm room.

here are the couple pics I took.

tried to get some action shots...

Re: AV15-X build thread.

I just got done watching transformers and watchmen with the new sub. It is absolutely amazing what it can do with only 240 watts, I have the gain at about 70% and it is louder than i would want on a daily basis. I probably won't be saying this later but i don't know why i would ever want much more than this. It can be heard and felt quite clearly from the room below during bass heavy stuff, I believe that exact words that the guy living below me used were "cracking the drywall" so I'm pretty pleased with it

If I were to take measurements with room eq wizard would the built in mic on my laptop work? that is all i have available.

Re: AV15-X build thread.

after several weeks of enjoying my new sub i am still really happy with it, plus i haven't gotten any complaints. when i first slid the box into the corner of the room i thought it looked huge, but now it doesn't seem that big and i get to thinking that i could have easily fit 10ft3, or even another matching sub. please try and talk me out of it...... my wallet couldn't handle it.

Re: AV15-X build thread.

Have you ran any REW sweeps with it to what kind of response you are getting?

James

You need another sub, you need another sub, you need another sub.......

Can you post a pic of the sub in the room?

i was planning on taking a pic with my laptops webcam because that is all i have for taking pictures, but importunately the motherboard went out on it a couple of days ago so i have to send it back to hp for repairs. at least it chose to go out 7 days before the warranty expired.

Wow, your dorms must be more accepting than the one I lived in. We had a few guys with decent stereos, and were constantly getting told to turn everything down. You should totally build a second one!! lol. Nice looking sub though, I'm glad it turned out so great.

Re: AV15-X build thread.

I finally got my laptop back from hp so i was able to do some more stuff. I used the built in mic on my laptop so its anyone's guess if its accurate or not but here is the un eq'ed sweep, i still would like to lower the highpass on my amp but i just havent had the time, that is part of the problem with the under 20hz stuff.

and some pics from my laptop's webcam

Edit: I can barely run roomeq wizard too so if you see anything i need to change on it just let me know.
