Hi there,

Ive gone for 2 FI Q18 D1's so I can run them bridged in 4 ohms. Had a long conversation with the guy from Blade ICE (UK distributor) and he said that will be fine.

cheers

Yes, now you're on the right track. A final 4 ohm load is what you need.

Here is how to wire 2 - D1 subs for a 4 ohm load.

Re: New diy sub

Mike

What sort of wadding is best to use. Sheets or stuff you chuck in. What does it do to the sound and characteristics of the sub. Also what glue should I use.

One thought I just had was with regards to the qtc. The qtc on my set up is on 0.95. What does this mean and is this ok. When I change the box size to 50 cu ft it goes down to 0.7.

cheers

Graham

Re: New diy sub

Hi guys,

I took a few pictures yesterday so I thought I would start posting up as I go. One is of the amp and a few of the box roughly made up so you can see how big it will be.

What is the best adhesive to use to glue the wood together. There seems to be mixed opinions over here in the UK but as there are alot more diyers in America it would be good to get your opinions.

cheers

Graham

Re: New diy sub

Any yellow carpenters glue works well, I use Elmer's brand.

Is that going to be the location of the sub when you're finished building?

Re: New diy sub

Mike,

Yep! I had my PB13 firing into the wall and that was the best sound I found in the room and I was surprised it wasn't boomy either. I will be removing one of the TV cabinets and moving the speakers in slightly so I can pull the sub away from the wall a bit.

God it weighs a tonne. I am going to put it on castors as it would need two strong men to move it.

To give you an idea how it compares to my PB13 size wise for a laugh.

Do you know what gripfill is like?

cheers

Graham

Gripfill will work fine. Will you be using clamps or screws?

Re: New diy sub

Mike,

Screws, screws and more screws. I am going to put sealant in all the internal edges and corners to seal properly. I should get the drivers by the end of the week so I can then draw up my outer holes properly.

Just one thought, on the internal bracing would it be ok for me to cut the main large circle and then just cut smaller circles above and below rather than cutting perfect shapes. See below.

cheers

Graham

Re: New diy sub

If you're using screws you have to predrill a pilot hole and countersink first or the MDF will split. Practice on a couple of pieces of scrap first until you get the pilot hole size and depth figured out for the screws you'll be using. 1.5" drywall screws work well as they have a smaller head then a regular screw.

As for bracing, which ever way it easier for you, both would work.

Hi guys,

What is the best way to connect the Onkyo 876 to the behringer. I've seen a XLR to rca lead

http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/catego..._-rca-(phono)/

Would this be ok.

cheers

Ive thought about using the router to smother the edges of the cutouts as well, kind of like flaring a port. Its probably a bit for a part your never going to see again, but is there any actual benefit of doing this. I'm thinking any movement of air inside the box will be smoother and reduce any potential vibrations/resonance inside the box?

Theres no real point to using that lead graham. XLR leads are usually quite fat, which would be a down side if the whole cable remains fat, and your not getting any sort of balancing from that input as your using the RCA anyway. I'm just using a headphone jack with an RCA socket in it so I can connect in the traditional way, it costs peanuts

Re: New diy sub

Dan,

The behringer 4000 don't have rca input so would it be a case of getting a XLR adapter to put the rca end into the amp.

There seems to be alot of people getting hum noises when they connect their BFD's into the configuration. Does this happen to everyone.

cheers

Graham

Re: New diy sub

Its quite common for the BFD to cause a hum in a lot of systems. There is a solution to this if you look around the forum on here.

What you need is one or two of these, depending on how many of the inputs your going to use:

Onkyo 875 | SVS PB13U (sold, DIY in the works) | Bose 203 Fronts | MA R250 Center | MA R270 Rears

I'm having a hum problem with my Behringer MIC2200. Is it the same solution as with the BFD?

Re: New diy sub

Recruit,

I've got the Gperkins thread on the avforums website as well. The box will be started this weekend so I will be getting some pictures up on Monday to show. Just a few bits to get now. Speaker wall plate, white oak wood veneer (finally chosen on 1 coat of antique pine and one coat of clear gloss) and then to do the speaker grills which I know what I am going to do on that. Oh and the feet too.

The fiberfill is perfect.
cheers

Graham

This is showing my first attempt of how the subs will sit in the outer panels.
Fits perfectly. I even surprise myself sometimes as I am not to good at diy.
