| Re: New diy sub GCFI is Ground Circuit Falt Interrupt. They are the outlets with the button on them like you probably have in your bathroom by the sink. In most places they are required by code anywhere that moisture could be present. They are however annoying because high current appliances can easily trip their internal breakers causing them to cut out. If there is a chance you might get wet and get shocked tho they are necessary for safety reasons. | ||||

| Re: New diy sub Thanks for clearing that up. Does dribbling over my sub count with excitement. I have sanded down the side that was causing me a bit of grief and it is now flush. Phew! thank god for that. I can't wait to get it up and running. cheers Graham | ||||

| Re: New diy sub Just try not to drool on any of the electrical connections and you should be ok. Good luck with your woodworking, as someone who was a car enthusiast long before I was into woodworking and DIY audio the degree of accuracy when working with wood drives me nuts. With car parts everything is machined to .001 inches or better, with wood if you're within 1/8th you're doing pretty good, and that drives me up the wall. ![]() | ||||

| Re: New diy sub Thanks evilskillet for the clarification to others i had went to bed but yeah and 20 amp gfci also require a lower gauge wiring to carry more amps because amps X volts = watts normal sockets are 15 amps by 100 volts and you get approx. 1500 watts but in reality its like 1620ish before the circuit goes.. But what id like to know is if the behringer 4000 is a reliable and long lasting work horse amp that will work of of a normal socket?? Can anyone help me? | ||||

| Re: New diy sub I believe it should, lots of people use the Behringer Europower amps for their subs. As for being able to use it with a regular outlet the manual should specify just go to behringers web page and look it up. I have noticed that some products advertise things that aren't realistically possible as far as I can tell after amps=voltsxwatts right? So if a hair dryer, like the one my wife just bought is advertised as 1860 watts. Now 120volts at 1860watts is 15.5 amps. So that means that hair dryer should flip any normal breaker just by it's self as most household breakers are 15 amps, and most of them already have a few other things running on them like some light bulbs or an alarm clock or something. So per their advertised rating it shouldn't even be possible to use that hair dryer on a 15 amp circuit, but it works just fine even with several other things on the same circuit. How do they claim 1860 watts? if I know. Does the thing work just fine? Yup. I checked the manual, it doesn't specify anything about needing a dedicated circuit or 20amp breaker as far as I can tell. The only thing I can figure is that 4000watts is the max power into a bridged 2 ohm load, max rms power is 2000 or less and thats only if you're listening at max volume. Most breakers are slow blow anyways and won't trip if you only exceed their rating for a very short period of time and what sane person in a home environment is going to be doing that anyways? So it could be a problem but I wouldn't forsee it. I'm sure someone who knows more about electricity than me will chip in and make everything clear. | ||||

| Re: New diy sub Yeah the simplistic logic of the hair dryer and laundry dryer makes sense and alot of other shack memeber do it so why can ti ahah LOL but im deffinetly now interested in the europower 4000 and a fi q or btl sounds great. Thanks mate cheers KrazyBassKevin | ||||

| Re: New diy sub Hi guys, I am going to do some testing shortly. In the meantime until I get some pics of that I did some tests with the titenbond wood glue and fixed a small piece of veneer to the mdf with a 6mm radius curve on the wood. I am really surprise how well it stuck so I will be curving the top and bottom and wrap one piece of veneer all the way around 3 sides, top and two sides curving around the edges. Really found it easy to do. I surprised myself. cheers Graham | ||||

| Re: New diy sub Mike, Its in the living room up and running. I can't believe it. God its actually there. There's no vibration through the enclosure at all. I now see why Mark Seaton developed the subkmersive. I played track six of Bassotronics which was the one that caused all my SVS subs a problem and even at -15db there is only about 10mm of excursion and it breezed through the song. The PB was flapping loads compared to the FI's. I am going to run REW tomorrow with and without the stuffing. I have no stuffing at the moment so it will be interesting to see what the difference will be. I will run them in all week and am going to veneer and finish next weekend. I don't need any feet as there is no vibrations. I have only screwed the side in with no glue and there is no rattles in the cabinet at all. Really pleased. Pics coming after the boxing. cheers Graham | ||||

| Re: New diy sub Sorry this is me and my children. Silly beggers. They just couldn't wait to get on top of it. I will be removing one of my TV units so the speakers will be sitting more inwards so don't worry about that. cheers graham | ||||

| Re: New diy sub That's a big sub which should more than shake your room. Are you going to paint it? What speakers are those next to the sub? Your sub is just as tall as they are. Looking good so far! | ||||

| Re: New diy sub Spanish68, I am veneering this friday. I have oak paper backed veneer. I am routing a curve on the top and bottom and then veneer one panel on the first side, then the top and the over side. Then veneer the bottom and the two fronts in also in the inners of the baffles. And then stain it with antique pine to match the speakers. The speakers are Monitor Audio RS6's. cheers graham | ||||

| Re: New diy sub I have a couple of questions regarding the behringer amp. 1. What do you have the gain set up on. I have mine set up on 22db. 1. The orange signal lights. Are they supposed to stay on all the time and I have noticed mine aren't but sometimes the input 1 and 2 flickers on and off and sometimes just one of them. They stay on more as I turn it up. Does this mean the input into the subs is low. It says in the manual that the signal lights stay on as long as a signal is present at the input but mine dont. cheers Graham | ||||

The light on the front of the amp is simply a signal indicator. When the signal is low is dim, when its strong it is bright. It will differ between the channels so you dont need to worry about that. You need to remember its really a PA amp for PA speakers, and that kind of indicator is common on that sort of kit. As long as the sub eq's properly into your system you have nothing to worry about.
