Sealed Box, Plate Amp, how to install?

I just finished making a sealed box with a speaker I had laying around. (Cheap's good, Free is better) and I was running it off an old amplifier for bookshelf speakers. Although it sounds great, the amp just does not fit in anywhere, so I bought a plate amp from parts express, and it got delivered today. When I mount, do I just cut a hole and screw it in, or should i build a mini box, mount on the inside and screw to existing MDF? (here are pics to illustrate?)

Just cut a hole and screw it in. The amp should have a gasket built in, if not use felt around the opening for a good seal.

I'm doing the same thing -- building a sub with a plate amp. I've cut a hole and will be using some closed cell foam to get a good airtight seal around it.

You just have to remember to take into account the interior volume you'll be using with your plate amp in the design of the plate amp.

Personally I don't think you need to worry about the internal volume of the plate amp...it is really neglegable. I've never seen anyone take that into consideration unless they actually build the box around it.

It is small.. and probably doesn't make that much of a difference.. but I'm learning I'm a little more anal than I thought I was. I think in the end, I added about 1/2" to the length of the box to compensate for the space used.

So I just busted out the sawzall and cut a hole and screwed the plate amp in. My rew graph did not change at all from when I had the external amp, and the plate amp, so I guess it really is negligable.

To check for leaks, I put the sub on 15 hz, and turn it up so the speaker is moving good, I could not feel any leaks around the plate amp, (or anywehre else) so I think all is well. Thanks for all the suggestions.
