Re: Sonosub LLT on its side?

I've seen them on their side in HT photos, so I would say there would be no problems with it.

Thanks Sonnie.

If someone that has done it and didn't have it push across the room will
chime in I will proceed with my design.

As long as you build some type of cradle or have a flat bottom to the endcaps like Ilkka's design, you'll be fine.

Here's what Ilkka's looks like:

I was planning on building it like Illka's, but I wasn't sure if his kept stable mainly due to the opposing drivers which mine wouldn't have.

Just place a pile of bricks or sandbags at each end of the sub and it wouldn't dare move.

That might not be a bad idea. Fill the whole thing with sand.

If the drivers are in a push-push setup, which is designed to minimize vibrations, I don't think it will budge. I believe this thread talks about the push-push design.

Re: Sonosub LLT on its side?

Mine isn't a Push-Push setup. I was planning on doing a LLT with a port on one end and the driver on the other. That is why I was concerned with it moving.

Re: Sonosub LLT on its side?

I don't think you'd have any issues if you built it like Ilkka's. Think about box subs that only have one driver facing to a side. We don't hear of those moving.

Re: Sonosub LLT on its side?

If you are putting the sub on carpet the weight of the unit will should hold itself still and if it is on hard wood you could put small rubber feet on it if you are that worried. 3m makes a nice small self adhesive bumper that would be good for this they use them for inside cupboard doors so they don't slam shut. The ones I used under my boxes on hardwood floors worked great and they are so cheap, I also never had problem with the box moving in the first place. They look like a half sphere and the flat spot is sticky and they hold really well.

Re: Sonosub LLT on its side?

I have my Sonosub laying over on it side and it fine. I actually placed a few pieces of OC703 under each end to keep it insulated from the ground. I could not be more happy with it.
