I wanted to replace my old DIY dual 10" woofer setup but my lovely loans officer was imposing strict budgetary constraints so the likes of SS,Fi and other hi performance woofers were beyond my reach.Having seen Ikkas promising measurements of the Infinity Perfect 12 in a sealed box I snagged a pair of similarily spec'd Reference 1242w's for $60 the pair on Ebay.
http://manuals.harman.com/INF/CAR/Bo...ch%20Sheet.pdf I know these drivers have limitations but I figured by using a using a pair I should be able to get enough clean output for my needs. They will only be used to augment my main LCR speakers and will not be used for the LFE channel.
The sealed enclosure will have a net volume of 75 liter and an f3 in the low 40's.An LT circuit will be used to add approx 6db of boost so as to extend the f3 down to about 28 hz.I could have added more boost to extend response further but I settled on the modest 6db for 2 reasons. The drivers will not run out of excursion as quickly and the enclosure will be corner loaded (and it has a shallow rolloff) so room gain should help lift the response at the very bottom.
As the pics show I wanted to keep panel resonance low so I braced the cabinet heavily and the drivers are mounted opposed which should reduce vibration even further.
I will bore you with some pics of the bracing scheme.
