Were you tempted to fire it up next to the person sleeping on the couch?

I did not notice her in the picture until you said that. The answer is no way. It was about 4 in the morning and she had a major head ache that night. That is my nephew's wife and she helped out in mounting the drivers in all the cabs, but that night, the head ache was too much.

Thanks,

Robert

I was wondering at what stage this massive project was by now, as it seems to be on the last few meters of a Marathon, so what else do you still have to do Robert before shaking the earth as it was never shaken before?

I don't know much about this but aren't those nice pillows going to reduce the volume of your cabinets and change the sound comparing to what you are expecting from your modeling?

The stuffing effectively increases the volume that the driver sees. I can tell you that the tuning is very deep. Deeper with or without stuffing-I do not know. What I do know is that I am very pleased with the outcome of the build , and I cannot wait to get the Itech amps going, soI will not be amp limited.

Thanks,

Robert

Amp limited!

Just a guess here but I would bet your ear drums would burst before you use half the power the itechs have to offer with this vicious pair.

It would be interesting to find out if any guests or yourself become a bit ill from the constant onslaught of bass that you WILL feel in your body. I would be willing to be a guinea pig if I were close enough.
I was fortunate enough to listen to a pair of Wilson XS subs driven by Krell mono blocks in a very large auditorium and that you felt in your bones, I suspect in your smaller room with what you have it will be even more extreme.

May God have mercy on your soul

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "WOW!"

I must say, at the last party, I had a few people say that they felt a little funny after being in the room for a while during some of the really active scenes. I just dismissed it as them not being used to such things. We will find out as more time and different material is used. I also had a few people who were just dumbfonded and a few others who thought it was the coolest thing. I guess everyone has his or her own likes and dislikes.

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "WOW!"

isent that stuffing a little too close to the drivers? being that close will place more of a resistance on the air movement before the driver gets to effectively use the rest of the air in the cabinet. like having a small section of pipe on a hose how it would be resisting the movement and not allowing the water pressure to effectively use the wider part of the hose? I know those drivers are incredible, and am super jealous of anyone that gets to hear them, but every little bit counts, right?

Just my thought process...

ooh and by the way, that is insane. very well done and implemented. Envious of it to an extent you will never know.

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "WOW!"

Those pillows, although visually they look semi solid, are acoustically transparent. The weight of pillow material is what increases the apparent acoustic box size which in turn will tend to lower the FS of the box.

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "WOW!"

I will put it this way, NEO Dan did some tests stuffed and unstuffed ported, and the ported stuffed had a tremendous drop in tuning on his ported design. I will say, he is very knowledgable in this area and he is responsible for the ultimate design of my LFE system. So far, with only a QSC rmx 2450, it rocks. Very visceral. I will be testing shortly as soon as amps and crossovers are hooked up. We will see if the graphs show a successful implementation. As far as I am concerned it is a success already.

Thanks,

Robert

I've been continuously checking this thread over the last few months and I am so happy for you that it's close to complete. Of course, I'm still watching closely for measurements of some sort.

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "WOW!"

Yes, it has been a long time for the build, but the cabs are complete except a few very tiny but intricate details. I will be done soon on that end. Hopefully, power will come next for the amps and then some real measurements. It will happen, just not tomorrow.

Thanks,

Robert
