Forget ear bleeding this thing will pop your eyes right out :raped:

Cant find the picture but apparently your eyes resonate at 17hz so you had better watch it I really do wonder why anyone needs this much bass?

Any chance of some pics of those amps aswell...

"when i grow up i want to be just like you"

Seriously though this build is amazing and i cant wait to see it finished

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "OH MY"

I hope to have some new pictures this weekend. I have a new card for my camera and I will be taking pictures. Both cabinets only need one baffle to be "structurally together". Then I need to mount wheels, handles, build 4 grills, wire speakers, finish the cabinets, mount woofers, tune passives, and whatever comes up in the process. Sooner or later I guess.

Thanks,

Robert

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "OH MY"

Oh, by the way, I really don't "need" all that bass, I just want to have something really nice, and the best that I can personally build it. Also, I don't want to have to build something better next week. I "Worked" my way up from using 4 old, reused drivers in a somewhat small box 8-10 cf for 4 15's, then four new 15's, to 18's to better 18's, to 8 15's, then finally, 4- 18" lms 5400's and 8- 18" passives. This process took, and is taking, all of about 8 years. In all of those years, I spent nothing on speakers or hobbies of any kind. So, all in all, my per year expenditures are pretty low, and I hope I won't have to spend any more for a while. These subs are, for me, like having a hot rod or a coin collection- It is a hobbie. As a matter of fact, I probably could have gotten away with one lms by driving it hard, but what fun is that, so I went with the project I am currently building.

Good luck

Robert

Yeah, to me too it's all about headroom. Why have one working overtime when you can have four going idle?

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "OH MY"

I am running out of places to put things without reaally causing a clutter problem. The IB route would be the next thing, but that would not invlove so much "clutter". The LMS build should be enough for the time being as far as bass goes. After talking to a few guys, I think I will have more in the tank than I will ever be able to use. That being said, unless I want to break things or just go with something different, I should be pretty happy for a long time to come.

Thanks,

Robert

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "OH MY"

Robert... wow. I have no idea how I missed this thread, but let me thank you for taking us on this ride. This has to be the most serious project I've seen, even considering some crazy IBs and things like the 12 Shivas. Those LMS drivers (being fed 8,000 watts!?!) will be downright dangerous. Great work so far, and I'd love to see the look on your neighbors' faces when their houses start shaking and their lights dim rhythmically!

PS: Sam... our eyes resonate??? Now I'm a little scared for him!

Well here we go, the last baffles are glued in place, and grills are glued and ready to be formed.

Robert, can you take one more picture with a human being adjusting one of the hundred clamps so I can get an idea of the size of scale? I just know those cabs are bigger than my brain wants to believe they are . . . .

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "OH MY"

They really are quite big, but now we are used to seeing them. People who pop by can't figure out what they are. Many different people have asked if they were cat boxes because of all the holes. Anyhow, they are growing on me. The size is 64.5" high X 30" wide X 24" deep. I would say small refrigerator size.
I will take some reference pictures soon.

Thanks,

Robert

BTW it looks like New Orleans is about to have another huge onslaught with these babies around...

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "WOW!"

With the grills, the cabinets are closing in on 400 lbs. Add the granite and the drivers, and I am going over 800 lbs.

Luckily, the granite and the drivers will be mounted once cabinets are in room and almost in place.

I really am not even close to trying to cut corners now. At first, I was worried, but we have moved these things in and out of that garage so many times that I have become somewhat used to the weight of the cabinets. I am going to get an accurate weight on these things soon.

Thanks,

Robert

Also, I am going to take some pictures of the amps after I get them unboxed.
