working great, still running strong, even after almost 6month of having them, im still messing with system architect to get the best overall bassline to my taste...

btw if you are gonna use system architect and bridge the i-tech, don't forget to indicate it, or else itll still work as "dual-channels", I discovered this 2weeks ago and it is noticiebly louder...

Have you tried the amps already? How loud are those I-T8000?

I doubt that Robert has anything other than the LMS's when properly mounted, that could be used to determine how "loud" these amps are.

Fictional Example 1...Hooked up an old set of 6.5" bookshelf speakers I had to one of the I-tech's. Sounded pretty good. I've never heard those speakers get that loud! Kept turning it up and it didn't sound so good any more. Both speakers were damaged and no longer function.

Then I tried my big floor standing mains...They got incredibly loud even with my hearing protection in. I kept turning up the gain to see what they could do, eventually things compressed really badly and one of the woofers caught on fire.

So the question is Robert...Do you have any old speakers that you REALLY don't care about?

That is what I was going to do. Try them on other speakers.

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "WOW!"

There IS without a doubt a ton and a half worth of power in them there amps! I accidently blew up a 400 watt speaker with a Crown Xti 4000. That's about a quarter of the power you got there. I'd be very careful of my amp settings as I became familiar with the equipment.
I read today about TC Sounds bankruptcy proceedings. There aren't going to be any replacement parts for your drivers if you make a similar mistake and blow up a driver like I did to mine.

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "WOW!"

I do not plan on even coming close to overdriving my subs. I do not want to break anything. My other speakers have never been overdriven, and I have never clipped any of my amps. Hopefully, this will work out the same way - I hope. Starting on routing the grills. They are becoming a major project.

Thanks,

Robert

Classic... Just classic, it reminds me of the stroy about a Hi Fi salesman who was doing a demo for a customer who repeatedly wanted more volume, well being a good slaesman the dealer couldnt say no... Anyway to cut a long story short the amp clipped, and the speaker (which had a clear cone) started to glow red then died... The funny part is the guy looked at him and said "if they come in colours other than red ill buy a pair"

Robert please dont test those 8000's on a pair of normal speakers

I think your pretty "safe" overall with your sub system Robert. I mean... How loud would things have to be to cause damage to any of these drivers or PR's with 4 18's and 8 PR's? I seriously doubt you will be using any more than 20% of this system usually.I think you'd have to accidently dump 6000watts of 8hz sine wave into them. I wouldn't worry too much.

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "WOW!"

I agree there is no way you are actually going to push the drivers to the point of breaking.

I would be more worried about the electrical, even with upgraded lines and direct to service box, that much current draw, especially not consistant, could cause good power drops at the amp's side.

I dont know but I just think playing with that much power you need to make sure everything is way over done. Which i am sure you have thought of as it seems you have all the bases covered.

Your subs are a dream to most of us, I wish i was somewhere even remotely close to have a chance to listen to them. just amazing, keep up the good work!

Re: 4 18" 5400's and 8 passives "WOW!"

Without doing any actual calculations, I'm guessing that Josh is somewhere close to real everyday use with his 20% guess. I mean with the output of just one of these subs being so much (and bordering on too much, even for people who love their bass), it would make sense that ~ 20% of this setup would get amazing results. I still can't believe you built this!!

Still going strong. Grills almost completely shaped. Time is cramped right now, so hopefully more done by next week.

Grills are completely shaped and rounded over. They look fantastic. No pictures right now, but I will have some tomorrow. Next step is the wheels, handles and terminals.

Don't worry Jason, it would do the same to my Tempest, and it would do it in a smaller box too. I've decided to (try to) be happy for the guys with the ambition to make the huge projects, because at least it gives me something to dream about.
