| Hey guys, I have a question. I have an older front firing Yamaha ysp-150 amp. it measures 24" tall x 10" wide x 17" deep. it has 2 - 8" drivers with a 4" wide x 8" long port tube and powered by a 150 watt amp. I do not know what the cubic interior space is or what the sub is tuned at. so here's my quetions would it be worthwhile to change the drivers? I cannot go larger so they would have to remain 8" drivers. also would it be worth while to change the plate amp? right now I'm not looking to build a box I'm trying to stay with the existing box for now. if you could, please give me some brand ideas for the drivers and the amp plate. thanks dieselpower1966 | |||

| Re: new drivers for older sub Sorry, I missed this thread. If you wanted to change out the drivers it would be possible, but internal volume would need be known. If you found the thickness of each wall (some might be of differing thicknesses) it wouldn't be very hard to figure out. Once this is done other drivers could be modeled in an enclosure of the same size. Depending on the drivers used you might need to change the amp. Why are you looking to upgrade i.e., what about the sub doesn't please you? Also, how much are you willing to spend? In the end it will probably be a better idea to buy a new sub rather than just switching the drivers out as a properly designed speaker/sub would have a cabinet designed for the drivers used. -Andrew | |||

| Re: new drivers for older sub Hey John!! The box is about 1.70cft and tune to around 40hz. If you thinking about buying a amp and subs, you maybe better buying a use sub for around $300 to $400 ![]() You can probably change the subs and re-tune the box, just depend on the subs you buy, make sure you buy the subs with the same ohms. You can check some subs here....................... http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage....ctGroup_ID=847 | |||

| Re: new drivers for older sub thanks for responding Andrew, the thickness of the walls are 3/4" particle board, I do not how to calculate the internal volume. I'd like to change the drivers and the amp if it's only a good investment in sound and performance. I don't know what the sub is tuned at, I don't know how to figure that either, I'll guess 30hz? on the low notes below the tuning I get a "whump" sound", i guess that would be the drivers bottoming out, I did not remove either driver so I don't know if they are wired in series, parallel, or if one is like a slave. any idea where to get the program to model different drivers and amps? any other infor would be appreciated. | Re: new drivers for older sub thank you Rodney, the Dayton Rss210HF looks like a very nice driver with response down to 27hz, priced $91.93 ea. seems like a deal. is there a program that I could use to model this driver in my sub enclosure? what do you think about maybe using the amp that came with the sub and just changing the drivers? the amp is rated at 150 watts rms thanks John | |||

| Re: new drivers for older sub Looking at the sub you have and your willingness to spend a couple hundred dollars I would recommend buying two subs to achieve maximum performance that will far exceed your current set up. Either two Dayton Sub 100 or two Dayton Sub 120 units properly placed will achieve more headroom and a better low frequency response than your current sub even with an upgrade. -Andrew | |||

| Re: new drivers for older sub wow is this really annoying. I know that Outlaw Audio is in Massachusetts, just outside of New Hampshire. I was under the impression that they had a manufacturing plant and warehouse there. It turns out that they don't... All they have up there are engineers, designers, and sales men. All of their products are manufactured in Carson, California. So three days after ordering the LFM-2's They are still in California. Like I said I thought Outlaw did everything themselves in Massachusetts, if they had, my subs would be here tomorrow. But alas, I guess I missed the fine print on their website. Everything that I read on the LFM-2's is great. They better be worth the wait. | |||
