| Re: My 15" TC2000 LLT End Table Project Lets talk about the port.... whats the real world difference between using 6" and 4" ? I am looking for 6" and I think I have found a supplier of 6" sonotube. But getting it will be a challenge, and I am ok with a challenge. But in my garage I have lots of left over 4" sewer and drain pipe left over from my dust collector project. If its a matter of definite port noise with the 4" and not just a better "plot" on paper then I ill go with the challenge of finding the 6". If I won't hear the difference i will go with the 4" | |||

| Re: My 15" TC2000 LLT End Table Project I dont have the answer to your question but I was able to find some very affordable 6" irragation pipe from a irragation supply house. HK 635 Denon 1920 Onix 750 Rockets Sound Splinter RLP15 Sono | |||

| Re: My 15" TC2000 LLT End Table Project Real world difference is that output compression starts ~20m/s and chuffing starts ~12m/s with a 4" diameter port using a 1" flare. With a 6" diameter port and 1" flare, those numbers become ~26m/s and 18m/s. If you want to use 4" diameter, I would suggest using three 4" diameter ports, each 32" long. Trying to maintain proper clearance for that many ports becomes much more difficult than a single 6" however. | |||

| Re: My 15" TC2000 LLT End Table Project Thanks..yes 6" it is....I am not going to rush this just to get it done. If it takes a week to get 6" tube then thats what it takes. I still need to wait for my router bit to arrive, and i still have not found speaker wire yet. Today i am cutting the braces and I will try and get something glued and stapled that semi-resembles part of the box so i can put it in place and plan how I want to finish the "furniture part". And Steve if I haven't said so...thanks for all the advice here...I know its a "basic" build and you must have seen dozens just like it...so thanks!!!! ![]() | |||

| Re: My 15" TC2000 LLT End Table Project OK, my wife found a piece of 6" sewer and drain pipe...24" long with a coupling that will make it more than 26"...not sure if this is ideal, but its on its way to me as we speak. Once I see if I will know more. But I figured I have to build it up on the ends anyway to use the roundover bit...so this is a "possiblilty". here in vermont you have to make do sometimes. ![]() | |||

| Re: My 15" TC2000 LLT End Table Project No problem. I wouldn't even worry about getting an extender - what you can do is cut a few donuts out of your scrap wood that have an ID the same size as the ID of the port. This will allow you to extend the length of the port without needing more 6" tube. Then build a final donut or two that has an ID the same size as the OD of the port, allowing a channel for the port to lock into and be adhered to. These donuts don't have to be very big either, 2" difference between ID and OD should be plenty (8" diameter donuts). | |||

| Re: My 15" TC2000 LLT End Table Project Great Idea....and then I can sand putty and sand the opening until it is smooth and blended.... One more question....how important is flaring the "inside" opening of the port? and if it is, would it be another 2 donuts? One with a roundover and one to make the connection? | |||

| Re: My 15" TC2000 LLT End Table Project For this design, or any other high excursion 15" driver using a 6" diameter port, it is pretty important. If using 1" thick wood, yes, two donuts. If using 3/4" thick wood, it will be three donuts, as I'm assuming you will be using a 1" roundover bit. | |||

| Re: My 15" TC2000 LLT End Table Project I am using 3/4" BB. The brace can be placed at the end of the internal opening of the port for 1 thickness...so two more it is...or maybe I have some 1" mdf scraps kicking around. | |||

| Re: My 15" TC2000 LLT End Table Project thanks for being nice ![]() tomorrow I tackle the port..and then maybe get it buttoned up. I haven't decided on what I want to do for legs. My thinking is some 2x4 stubs and then cover them with whatever hardwood i use to make this "furniture". | |||

| Re: My 15" TC2000 LLT End Table Project It looks worse than it was....but it was all cleaned up before my wife got home. I felt like that scene in pulp fiction.... do you know what happens if my wife comes home and there is a dead body in the garage??? ...i'll be divorced..i don't want to be divorced!!!! ![]() | |||

| Re: My 15" TC2000 LLT End Table Project its done!!!!! well...its now ready for power at least...but i'm bleeding...and its time for a couple cold beers and a band-aid..... ![]() ![]() ![]() i'll type more and upload pictures when the bleeding stops and the beers gone ![]() things i learned tonight.. 1. impact drivers should not be used on subwoofers.... 2. scissors should not be used to strip cable 3. pay more attention to squareness of box when its this big...i had to sit my 220 lbs on the top to tack the first screw on the last board. ![]() ![]() 4. small sealed boxes are WAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY easier to build than large ported boxes...and cheaper too. Letas hope the pain goes away when i fire it up. thanks for ALL the help guys...especially Steve who is taking an undeserved beating over at avs ![]() | |||

| Re: My 15" TC2000 LLT End Table Project Well here are the semi-finished pictures...as of yet I have not plugged it in. I wanted to get the room cleaned up and post these before the wife got home. she is gone again on saturday so I can play with it then...i need to ease her into this whole new addition to the family ![]() |
