| Re: EP2500 subwoofer amp, Is this normal? There are a few things that come into play when hooking up a EP2500. crossover wise If your receiver has a sub output then chances are you will not need one. you can confirm this if you can change the crossover setting for the subwoofer out, typically at 70-80hz. if you can change it on the receiver then you are good to go. Connecting the receiver's rca to the 2500 you need a rca to XLR adapter. however the next part may take care of it. You may need what is called a line driver. What it does is amp the rca signal up a bit so that the amp can use the signal. Some receivers have a sub out that outputs a lower voltage signal (say 2 volts max, dont quote me on this just using as an example) and because the amp is built for a pro audio situation where higher signal voltages are used the sound it produces even with all gains turned up may be quiet. because the input is so small it wont get any louder. You may or may not need a line driver (Art cleanbox is popular (but needs a mod to get full potential)) you may not need one. A line driver is not necessarily a bad thing but a needed thing depending on your setup. Just another thing to think about. | |||
