Re: Crown XTI-2000

These are pro audio amps intended for hard use and live performances. They are usually power rated at 1kHz at 1% THD. Most decent consumer stereo amplifiers will be power rated at 20-20,000 Hz at .05% (or less) THD. Hence, you have to realize that you are not getting comparable power with pro sound amps. The Crown xTi-2000 will likely provide less than 400 Watts per channel both channels driven into 8 Ohms at 20-20,000 Hz at .05% THD. You should think about a good home audio stereo power amplifier or save some money and just get a Behringer EP 2500 if you must buy a pro sound amp.

I thought you already bought one and hooked it up.

I don't know if it was that particular model, but I know I've seen several others using Crown amps in their home theater systems. As Jay stated though, not sure how you could compare the true power rating.

Re: Crown XTI-2000

Hi, I just bought a Crown XTI-2000 power amp. I love this amp! it sounds excellent, much more dynamic than my Onkyo M504 power amp. The low end is also much tighter. The fans on this amp have not come on once. Crown claims they won't kick in till the heat sinks reach 150 degrees. After 4 hours of hard playing the heat sink temps reached 122 degrees! If they do come on they will only spin at the speed needed to cool the amp, then shut down again. I'm very happy so far. I have no hum or buzz the amp is very quite.*My question is why don't more people buy these pro-amps for home stereo's? This is a very clean powerful amp for $699.00. You would pay at least $1800.00 for half the power in a consumer amp. I'll never look back. I will admit the sound is a bit more analytical the best way I can describe it. I'll never run out of headroom. I have to laugh when I hear people talk about how harsh these pro amps are, I sure don't find them harsh at all. If your looking for a great sounding, quite, rugged amp, here it is.

Re: Crown XTI-2000

I dont have personal experience with pro amps, but in greek forums many people share the views and enthusiasm of Anthony for pro amps, and for the Behringer A 1500 in particular. (around 350 euros through internet shops). Some even use 4 of these to drive Magnepans. So, for me, the least I can think is, that there is no smoke without a fire.
And considering their price i dont think any 300 to 500 amp can stand against them

Re: Crown XTI-2000

I've used a few different Pro amps, none for home stereo, but as a bass power amplifier. I am considering using a Crown XTi 2000 as a subwoofer amplifier. I've seen over at TC Sounds forum that they are going to be using these to power a line of assembled subwoofers that they are going to be selling. Has anyone used an XTi 2000 for powering a home theater subwoofer?

*My question is why don't more people buy these pro-amps for home stereo's?
Because not all pro amps are created equal. There are quite a few low-end pro manufactures that make equipment not suitable for a high-fidelity installation. For instance, Samson amps have a reputation for sounding “gritty” when used on the main speakers. Typically your safest bet with a pro amp is one designated for studio use, although there are certainly other good ones out there suitable for home use.

Subs are a different story than powering the mains. With subs, any pro amp will do, even a cheap one. However, some of them can be unreliable even in a low-demand home installation.

Regards,
Wayne

Re: Crown XTI-2000

Many people have used the Carver Pro amplifiers with digital chips in them and report excellent sound quality. Better than typical pro amplifier sound quality.

I have had the Classic II's in my audio rack before, and before those, a DC-300A II and DC-150A.

Crown makes a very, very clean signal path amp. If you want base that will hit you in the chest like a sledge hammer, Crown is the amp.

Crown also supplies power supplies for MRI machines. So they know how to generate clean power.

Re: Crown XTI-2000

I have my XTI-2000 now and I'm just waiting for my drivers to show up. So far the amp is quite user friendly. I haven't owned a power amp with a USB interface and the real-time control with my laptop is very neat. More to follow.

Re: Crown XTI-2000

I've got a TC SOUNDS 18" LMS-5400 being delivered by next Friday. I'm about to jump on a Crown XTi 4000 to power it. I'll be using my previously built 7.1 sealed box with ELF. I expect this combination to soothe my need for cone speed. I'll report back.

Re: Crown XTI-2000

The Fedex man delivered the 18"LMS-5400. It doesn't fit the 18" hole in my 7.1 cu ft. box. The speaker DOES weigh 75lbs. I'm going to have to make some modifications to the box. In the mean time Fedex will deliver a Crown Xti 4000 amp next week some time.

I've got the speaker and the amp, now how do I intergrate the Crown XTi 4000 into my stereo equipment? It has balanced XLR input plugs and almost all my stereo gear has RCA plugs.

Re: Crown XTI-2000

Thanks Geoff,
I'm now running the RCA to XLR cables and they work good. I haven't noticed yet any noise pick-up issues from using the cables but I haven't finished rewiring all my consumer products yet either. If I run into a noise issue I WILL try the ART clean box. I think at the price it's worth it.

Re: Crown XTI-2000

Canaris- I too have a cpx 2600 Crest on subs. Amp sounds great, and was a great deal. But mine is loud, that fan seems like it's moving a lot of air. Do you have the same problem, or maybe you've found an answer?
